Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now I know a number of Model A owners who like and even prefer to run Autolite 3076 spark plugs in the As they drive. Well, Autolite spark plugs is closing down as part of the First Brands bankruptcy. A number of our Model A vendors have some in stock, like Bert's and Sacramento. There are also plenty of auto parts retailers that have these plugs in stock currently, such as AutoZone, Advance, O'Reilly's, etc. If you like running the Autolite 3076 plugs, you may want to pick up a couple of sets at your favorite A vendor or nearest auto parts retailer.

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now I used some old style plugs to make 14 mm adaptors. The modern plugs are cheaper by far, readily available and likely to stay that way. It's a no brainer for me with my driver cars.

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now The local AutoZone had zero in stock, didn't normally carry them due to lack of demand (one has to make a cut-point somewhere) and the nearest was found in Manchester, NH. Couldn't get four but if I wanted one they might be able to get it middle of next week.
The local O'Reilly's didn't have them in stock (low demand) but could have four in by tomorrow afternoon - they'll call when they're in. Amazon and most other sources were not checked for availability but price listed was 2X or more the Auto Parts store price. And Amazon tended to "shift" you onto imported competitors of the same pattern/size - without saying it was a substitution until you get to the "drill-in" page. Joe K |

Of course there are those TT-10s still hanging around in parts-land. Otherwise known as "Stranded Investment." Joe K |

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now The newest plugs I have in my A's are 12 years old.My 30 pickup has plugs I bought in 1975.I have 3 or 4 new extra sets,so I'm not going to worry about it.I have some NOS Firestone plugs that are useless.Hook them to the strap, put your finger on the electrode and crank it over.I feel nothing. They just don't pass juice.

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now Saw a MAFCA Facebook post mentioning this today. Ordered (8) of them @2.99 each from my local O'Reilly store. They'll be shipped to store for free pickup.

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now My eight 3076 arrived at the local O'Reilly's today. Now picked up.
So they are out there - but don't expect every place will have them - or can get them. Add them to the TT-10 box. They're more or less identical in appearance. (TT-10 seem to have been a "Motorcraft Ford" product. Although some exist under an Autolite Label.) Somewhere online there is a link to a listing of "substitute" plugs for the Model A/Model T. Unfortunately it appears on one of the "other" hobbyist automotive sites - and they want you to "sign in" before doing a download. Of course signing in requires membership/emails/queries/pleas for support. I like clubs and sharing of information, but can't there be a limit to how many? Does anyone have any alternative lists/references? Joe K |
Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now Do the TT10's have longer reach for high compression heads ? The 3076 electrode reach is for stock head's thread depths , but is recessed in some h.c heads..

They're EXACTLY the same plug. Even look the same except for the name in the porcelain. Joe K |

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now In reality, all of the pre-2000 year spark plugs are going away. I have used spark plug adapters to run 14mm spark plugs in the past, but I returned to the original size 18mm plugs. My concern is the position of the sparks in the combustion chambers. I suspect that the adapters raise the spark higher into the chamber in effect making the plug perform colder than its rating.
I find that the 18mm plugs last indefinitely, and I have a significant supply of Motorcraft TT10 plugs to last for my lifetime. From the coloration of the TT10 plugs in my engines, I find their heat range is just right for 4.22 to 6:1 compression ratios and 87 Octane Ethanol polluted gasoline. |
Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now Agree with Bob, since we no longer have lead in our gas, plugs and mufflers last forever. Now mufflers rust from the outside in not inside out when lead was in our gas.

Well, not quite so sure about this. Motorcraft and Autolite brand parts are alive and well. Ford makes a HUGE profit on parts and service , as compared to actually selling cars. And those brands are the key. I Googled it and AI said 'No, they are not going anywhere and are not in bankruptcy.' I think what is happening is yes, they will stop making those spark plugs there is very little market for them but the entity as a whole is quite sound:) Somebody jumped the gun and got overly excited. Most guys run Champions anyway....Nothing to be 'worried' about here. |
Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now You guys bullied me into buying 4 of those babies, but I paid $3 each plus tax.:D

Beats paying $25 each for Champion 3Xs, which makes for an expensive "driver" car - not to mention the issues with the "3" and other non-original anomalies. There is something to be said for "plain jane." It doesn't win judging, but who on the street who wants to see under the hood will know the difference? Joe K |

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now I ordered a dozen 3076 plugs from the O'Riely's in Delavan, WI. this morning. Instead of the dozen, They only had eight , so I guess that warehouse is now sold out. I was glad jus to get the eight, two sets.
Many years ago, a neighbor bought out the last two sets of NOS 3X's at our local NAPA store in Harvard, IL., for a couple bucks each. History repeats itself. |
Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now My local O-Reilly’s had 4 on the shelf for $3.17 each including tax. I went ahead and bought them at that price doesn’t hurt to have spares. Probably never need them. I have a new set in the truck now and four new 3X on shelf plus six new old stock Champion C4X plugs in original cartons.

Re: Autolite is closing down - Buy your 3076 spark plugs now So I'm up in the barn checking the stock level of 3076s. I had four so add the eight more I just bought. (The bought ones are nice since they come in their original boxes.)
And I find the TT-10s I bought perhaps 10 years ago when they were like $1.89 each. And I find the C-4s I bought back then when I was looking for "other" plugs. Flea market finds, these have the nice brass tops and the knurled nut. And I grab the little "stand" of four I made back then with the thought to pull them down and polish the brass. And wouldn't you know, one of them pops out of the stand and crashes to the concrete floor - spark plug now and subsequently in "pieces." Kind of a fragile little thing history is, isn't it? So I go on Ebay looking for another C-4 like the ones in the rest of the stand. It's here now. Not cheap - but still "available" after a fashion. Joe K |
