Quitting How do you get rid of decades of extreamy nice 32 parts.
Un broken fenders ,hoods, grills, shells, firewall, complete perfect front and rear suspensions, running boards, frame, steering box, pedals.rims and original caps I am just out of three weeks in isolation ward with Covid and pneumonia I can’t even get to the shop. Pate? eBay marketplace? I don’t know when I will ever be able to move the stuff. Thoughts. |
Re: Quitting Wishing you well Andy, not sure which route to direct you to, but this site is a good start, should you happen across a left side 32 landau bar give me a shout.

Re: Quitting Hello Andy, been down this road. I learned not to make any BIG decisions while recovering from serious illness. Hold on for a while and don't stop flying the airplane! All the best, take care. Gordon

Re: Quitting List the items here and also take them to a swap meet. Small new boxed items could be sold on EPay. At the meet sell the parts at the lowest price and make new friends. Keep in mind the cost and effort taking it all back home if you don't price it attractively enough.

Re: Quitting Get well and feeling better first; then think it over.
There are people that will buy a package deal at a fair price; you just have to decide if dealing with selling piecemeal is worthwhile money wise and maybe more importantly time wise (advertising, packing, shipping, putting up with with idiots and low ballers). Selling the stuff yourself, the most desirable items will sell easily; but a lot of other stuff not as much. Hope you are up and at 'em soon. |
Re: Quitting Concentrate on getting yourself as good as you possibly can . Then push for more .
Don’t get anxious and sell stuff you’ll regret . Get well soon . |
Re: Quitting Iron Trap Garage is travelling around the USA buying up lots of parts from estate sales, etc.

Re: Quitting The advice to get well first by others is sound advice. Once you are well you will make decisions with a clear plan in mind. You do not want to make hasty decisions. They usually don't end well when you make them.

Re: Quitting A good auction might be what you need, but yes get well first. I have thought it would be good to have auction services at a swap meet to rid all the leftovers.
|
Re: Quitting Wish you well Andy, you are one of the guys around here that I respect their knowledge on this old junk. 32 stuff for sale should not be a problem, but as pointed out, the creamy stuff will go fast and other will take time and effort. I did the auction thing a couple years ago, and its shocking to go thru. Mostly profit because much of it had been bought 30-40 years ago, then you watch something bought last year for 200 bucks go to the scrap man for 10 bucks!!! In my case, it had to go, I was moving, no other choice. For you, take some time to think it over....best wishes.

Re: Quitting Among your friends and acquaintances, there will be one who has a reputation for being the early worm in offering to liquidate at such times. Comes the time when you need such a person, but have caution, as all the leverage is with him and you will feel obliged to trust his judgement. Too many red flags with an arrangement t like this. You’d do better to initiate contact with an out-of-town dealer to maintain control.

Re: Quitting I don’t onow you but I wish you well - just remember a body n motion stays in motion - ss others have said - get better and then make the decisions.
Good luck and keep us posted - you are in our thoughts and prayers …. |

I wish you all the best and full a recovery. Whatever illness is going around lately, is pretty nasty. Like Tom said, get back on your feet and start to feel better first and foremost. A lot of good suggestions have already been posted. Don't rush to this decision. Prime '32 parts like grilles, fenders, front axles, doors are bringing very good money. I think first you need to decide do you want to ship any of the parts. If the answer is no, then swap meets, Instagram and Facebook Marketplace with the caveat of no shipping clearly listed in the ad. If you do Instagram, reach out to me when you get out. I can help you send your post to a few guys (East Coast Mike, etc.) with huge followings and they can re-post it your ad for you to help get the word out. Pate and the Loan Star Roundup would be two good places in TX. I would not use Ebay. The 25% fees and the W-2 they would send you on the sale of all these nice parts would be a pretty big hit on your profit. Iron Trap has built an incredible business and has amassed amazing stuff. That said, a company like his or any similar will not offer you the price these parts would bring if you sold them if they are that nice. That said, if you want to sell them all at one time, this may be the best option. Since they are all individual pieces, this is actually a good thing. Prime '32 parts will sell quickly. Another thought is Hershey if you are willing to make the drive. Going by your description, your parts would sell within the first two days. A buzz gets created when prime '32 parts show up. Please post when you are back on your feet and we can offer some additional help. |

Re: Quitting There are plenty folks right here in Knoxville that are serious buyers if that is what you want.

Re: Quitting Most everyone wants to give sincere advice to you Andy, but I think you know best how you feel and what you are or will be capable of doing on your own. If you open up your storage to mostly local folks they will be after the best parts. Soon after and including a lot of work you will have mostly a large stash of parts for the "tin man." Not knowing the amount of your collection, I believe contacting a few of the BIG buyers like IronTrap would be in your best interest. They would give you a flat figure and it would be all gone and cleaned up in a couple days. If you don't like the bids you receive you can always strike out on your own. From my small experience selling and packing and shipping can be a monumental task. I continually watch parts advertisements and local friends and it seems that so few parts get sold in a timely fashion, if ever. No matter what anyone tells you we are in a diminishing market for 1930s cars and parts. Most importantly I wish good health again for you. It is so much more than money or accumulations.

Re: Quitting Get well first, the parts can wait

Re: Quitting Get well with plenty of prayers to you. Don't fret about the parts.
|
Re: Quitting Yes to wait & pray, as others have said. I sold something when I had a hip replaced, big mistake......... Hope you heal faster than expected !!!

Re: Quitting Pray you get better. The parts can wait.

Re: Quitting Andy: If you lived closer to Auburn, IN, you could "donate" your parts to Early Ford V-8 Foundation. That is what I did this past September. Drove a U-haul full of parts and 4 flathead engines. My wife was so happy that the parts left our garage. I got a nice letter and tax deduction from the Foundation. The Museum has swap meets in Spring and Fall where they sell parts and they also do restorations so parts come in handy for the Foundation/Museum.

Re: Quitting Get well first.
I don't have your exact Delima, but I have a 40+ year collection of parts that my kids don't care anything about. I had been saving them for this project or that but I am pushing 60 now and realize I don't have that many projects left in me so I need to at least thin the herd. I tried for a time to sell at the Nashville AACA sale in February, but it got to where all people wanted was cheap tools and repro signs. This will be my second year not taking stuff there. The last few years especially there were way too many bottom feeders that wanted to buy at pennies on the dollar. I don't want to hit a home run on every part, but some of the good stuff I have had for over 40 years in some cases and I was not ready to give it away. (As a side note we should all be respectful of the vendors at a swap meet. You have to "give away" a lot of parts to get there and get home and to just sell parts-not to mention cleaning it, loading it, unloading it, setting it up, loading it, unloading it....) Big stuff is an issue to move. Shipping is hard, packing stuff is hard. I would try to gather up the best big stuff and get a booth at a big show-Hershey or Carlisle type. Try to get decent money for the stuff that is hardest to ship. FB Marketplace is great with no fees but it is only local so it severely limits the buyer pool. For the past year I have sold a bunch of smaller stuff that would ship for about $25 or less USPS, UPS, or FedEx ground on Ebay. Their shipping rates are very hard to beat. I don't like Ebay fees but the fact remains that they have a worldwide audience and it's hard to beat the exposure. I price my parts just less than the most similar one and I have got decent prices for my parts-even after fees. Don't make any knee-jerk decisions, get better first. |
Re: Quitting Andy - Blessings and wishes for a healthy recovery.
I would "HOPE" IF you were looking for one person to take on what you have accumulated......Michael Driskell at Third Gen would be absolute first on the list......OR......maybe IF he would "broker" the parts sale and distribution of them. I will state - I have "NEVER" dealt with or had any negative experience with "Iron Trap Garage" BUT just as an observation.......I wouldn't sell my collection to them......Just don't get the "warm fuzzy" from his whole operation with respect to "originality" and "As Henry Built It". IT seems to me that IF he cannot use it, modify it for his "customized" needs THEN he'll cash in and move it along as a "last resort"....AGAIN, just my observation and opinion.....AND I have been wrong in my life before. I can just about guarantee that there are at least two or three here on the barn that would be interested (or buy) ALL of what you listed as having.......Count me As one of them that could "sure" use the complete 32 front end....Which I bet I'm at least 3rd or 4th on the list. Just my altruistic $ .02 worth |
Re: Quitting When you're better and want to sell, divide and conquer: sell the best stuff you have first at onesy twosey prices. Then sell the worst stuff off as a lot keeping what’s left to sell/donate as you see fit. Just mho ….
