Senior Fordbarners How many Fordbarners are in their 80s? I am 83 and still enjoying my Model A's. I still learn stuff. I refresh & learn new mechanical engineering skills on YouTube by watching Professor Walter Lewin of MIT. I also learn alot on this forum. The Ford Barn is the best Model "A" forum.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I am 82 and just bought my third A, 1931 Roadster Washington Blue, something I lways wanted.
|
Re: Senior Fordbarners '85, still going, not as strong as I used to be but still athletic. I learned Model T's, then Model A's in the 1950s
|
Re: Senior Fordbarners I feel like a spring chicken here, 73 in a couple of weeks. I hope in ten years I’m going as strong as you guys - I’m planning on it.
|
Re: Senior Fordbarners 81 here,.....but slowing down. I needed to pull a tranny w/overdrive from my 54 Ford this winter to fix leaks. Gave up the notion though, as just thinking about the cold concrete floor got me tired.

Re: Senior Fordbarners 87 and going strong. Still flying my taildragger Piper and crawling under my Model A.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I'm 83 this year with two new hips. That's not funny

Re: Senior Fordbarners Same age as you Bob, still enjoy the Model A, just a little harder to get up off the floor. Glad the A has running boards!

Re: Senior Fordbarners 81 and still going at it.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I'll get back to you in 3 years and 2 months. :)

Re: Senior Fordbarners So I’m only 64, a “babe in the woods”, and I still struggle with laying on the garage floor in winter. (Sometimes in summer… lol!) I use interlocking floor pads, they are cheap and are available on the web. Oils just wipe right off and they are padded. Just search Amazon for “CAP Barbell Interlocking EVA Foam Exercise Puzzle Mat Home Gym Flooring”
And there are lots of options and they are cheap, 24SF in 6 pieces for $13, gives you all you might need. |
Re: Senior Fordbarners I'm 88.86, do I get a prize? I was doing great until at age 76 I had a major stroke that affected my whole right side. For a few years it took me 5 minutes to get down on a creeper, and 10 minutes to get up, I don't do this anymore! But I still make cylinder heads and grind cams, well, others do most of the work for me.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I will be 85 in April. Getting old os Not for Sissies !

Re: Senior Fordbarners I’m in my late 80’s. I won’t give my exact age because there too many scammers looking up names on Google.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I'm 83 and still work on my cars and friends cars. Currently still hunting whitetails here in PA. I walk all of the Hershey Fall Show.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I'm 70, just a young buck, you guys truly inspire me. My uncle is 85, he is busy putting together a '29 roadster. I am starting to feel all the A tinkering is actually a good thing, keeps the noggin sharp, and helps keep the body moving. At least that is what I tell the wifey. Ha Ha.

Re: Senior Fordbarners old but goodies. I'm 91, and two Modela's A's 31Coupe@31 pu truck loves them both.

Good luck. |
Re: Senior Fordbarners Some of you guys put me to shame. I'm only 77 but just 77 by a couple of weeks. I plan on living for ever. It's all going to plan so far!
|
Re: Senior Fordbarners "It's all going to plan so far!"
...until it doesn't. :) Marshall Baseball great Mickey Mantle's quip about reaching a ripe old age: "If I'd known I 'd live so long, I would have taken better care of myself." I think director George Cukor said the same thing after passing the 100 years-old mark. Marshall __________________ |
Re: Senior Fordbarners I'm 91 and just sold my '22 Model T roadster yesterday and they're coming to pick it up tomorrow. It was getting hard for me to get in it, drive it and work on it. I still have my '28 Model A and '34 roadsters and plan to keep those for a while. I also have a '37 Touring Sedan which my wife wants me to sell. It's an unrestored original car with around 63k miles on it, drives well and is in amazing condition for its age.

Re: Senior Fordbarners "Considering the odds, not too bad."
Still simple to work on but there are certain Model A's that are 'lost' dreams, too difficult to enter, Roadsters, Phaetons & Station Wagons. Adjustable bench seats are an improvement. |
Re: Senior Fordbarners 1 Attachment(s)
will be 89 soon. Still driving the '29 Business Coupe I got when I was 16. Gave my son in Lake Forest, CA my late original '31 Station Wagon and my daughter in Kansas City my '31 68C Cabriolet and in May my Grandson in Lake Forest gets the Business Coupe. I am keeping the '30 all wood Speedster as long as I can.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I have a message for you all. It is cliche from Clint Eastwood. "Don't let the old man in!" My "Bucket List" is make it to 100 with all of my marbles and all of my Model A's. Only 17 years to go.

Re: Senior Fordbarners 83 here. I think these old Fords are what keeps us going.

No doubt about it...and vice versa! :D |
Re: Senior Fordbarners 1 Attachment(s)
"I think these old Fords are what keeps us going."
Maybe so, but the 1929 Town Sedan I just finished after a grueling three-year restoration d*mned near KILLED me, physically and spiritually!!! Every once in a while you run into a problematic Model A that fights tooth and nail against being restored. This was one of those and THE most frustrating restoration I ever did. 'Almost turned me into a Chevrolet man! Almost. It aged me to the point that I FEEL as if I'm in my 80's...my LATE 80's :( Marshall |
Re: Senior Fordbarners I am 81 and have owned my '31 Deluxe Coupe for for 66 years.

Re: Senior Fordbarners 88 and still under my 29 RPU & 52 F1 plus golf

Re: Senior Fordbarners I'm just a kid @ 68. Nobody in my family's ever lived past 73.
The heck with it, I'm taking it all with me! |
Re: Senior Fordbarners They say these are the golden years. Sometimes I wonder....

Re: Senior Fordbarners 3 Attachment(s)
I’m only 77………
Old cars and narrow gauge railroading is in my blood… The Book I read says to carry on each day……. It’s inspiring to be part of this group …! |
Re: Senior Fordbarners Yeah and I put a pillow on top of the carpet.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I recently turned 80, still run our '31 Tudor "Tinker", have to finish a '30 Sport Coupe I've had since 1967 & have a '30/'31 roadster banger hot rod on the stands Very thankful I'm still able to get to projects, altho' really slowing up. Oldman

Re: Senior Fordbarners Just turned 79. Flying choppers in Vietnam in 1968, I didn’t think I would make it past 22. Got shot in both legs. Still missing the other ones who didn’t get home, still flying my Piper Cub like GPierce and just finished a complete rebuild of my 1956 Cessna 180. Working every day on the 31 Wide Bed, 30 Tudor and 39 Pickup. Too much work to do. Can’t die now.

Re: Senior Fordbarners I've always said "I'm going for 100 and when I get there, I'm going for 200".
