Need 35 horn parts Does anyone sell new internals for 35 Ford horns?
My external bezel & mounting pieces are beautiful but internal actual horns dont work. Looks like someones been inside & while externally theyre correct internally has a different insides in each? Id like to find correct new or rebuilt internals for both! |
Re: Need 35 horn parts you should be able to use the internals from 34 and 36 horns

Re: Need 35 horn parts 2 Attachment(s)
I have several horns from 1935 commercial and trucks. There must have been two different manufacturers as there are two distinctly different internal configurations. Maybe Ford changed the specifications along the way and one is an early style and the other a later style? I'm inclined to believe it's two different suppliers.
One style is complex and includes a capacitor. The other is much simpler in design. The simpler design is attached with bolts while the more complex design uses threaded holes and screws as the attachment method. Maybe someone with more knowledge can add some identification details. Also, I've heard that the reproduction horns don't work well. |

Re: Need 35 horn parts There is a guy in West Bend Wisconsin "The Horn Guy" that has reconditioned horns. His name is Gary Wise phone # (262) 339-0507 he maybe can answer your questions, or he may have the parts you need.

Re: Need 35 horn parts Dec211975 - Thanks for the lead. I'll give Gary a call.

Re: Need 35 horn parts Thx but truck r bigger & wont fit car bezel.

Re: Need 35 horn parts Thx, I’ll check him out!

Re: Need 35 horn parts 1935 cars (Model 48), commercial (Model 50) and truck (Model 51) all used the same horn assembly. The only difference is the mounting bracket.

Re: Need 35 horn parts 1 Attachment(s)
Turns out the images in Post #4 are the Schwarze design on top and the Spartan design on the bottom. The Schwarze design came into production in April 1935 while the Spartan design started with the beginning of 1935 production and went all the way to the end of 1936 production for vehicles with horns mounted on the fender.
Here's a better picture of a Schwarze designed horn. |

Re: Need 35 horn parts Were you able to make contact with Gary? It has been several years since I got a business card from him at a swap meet, was not sure if he was still working on horns.
Regards, Brian |
Re: Need 35 horn parts The top photo in post #4 above appears like the Sparton car horns CL-4 and CL-6

Re: Need 35 horn parts I just converted to 12V with Harbor Freight guts at about $15 each. Newc
|
Re: Need 35 horn parts 2x on the 12 volt guts works great, mine came from the junk yard
|
Re: Need 35 horn parts Newc. Please elaborate? Harbor freight has 12v 35 Ford horn conversion guts?

Re: Need 35 horn parts Brian, not yet. I will when I understand what I have inside my bezels. Each is different! Probly one of each mentioned in post Schrwarze & spartan. Probably would like both the same when I replace guts!

Re: Need 35 horn parts I got a pair of horns from a early 90s Lincoln, took them apart and put the horn parts in the 35 shells. took some engineering but thats the fun, right

Re: Need 35 horn parts 1 Attachment(s)
I hate incomplete or wrong information especially when it appears authoritative. I'm guilt of doing such a thing in Post 10. I didn't do my homework well enough. I've taken the time to review every scrap of information I have on horn motors and put it into the attached document. There are three types of horn motors for 1935 Fords. There are two Spartan designs - 40-13815 and B-13815-B which were in use for the entire model year. In about April 1935 Ford added a Schwarze design 48-13815. My apologies for any confusion.

Re: Need 35 horn parts I rebuilt my 33 horn by retrofitting the internals out of new 12v bull horn, some modification required to the mechanical operation. The perimeter mounting holes exactly line up and the cover will fit.

Re: Need 35 horn parts Model 51.. thanks for all your hard work to clarify this topic. I have the B 13815 spartan and it is a major PITA to adjust and set. The others look a lot simpler.. can you offer any comments in comparisons, do the others actually work better? Also, another post suggested any "replacement" can be made using same parts from 33-36. Can you confirm this?
Thanks |
Re: Need 35 horn parts I'm frustrated that I can't get any one of my horns to work. It looks like such a simple device with so few parts but I must be missing something or overlooking things. I put this project aside for a bit but will have to get back on it soon. I've done a little search trying to find someone to help with no success so I'm a bit frustrated, hence my decision to work on other more pressing restoration projects for now.
I don't have any idea about replacement parts. I've heard that the reproduction horns aren't very good but I don't have any experience with those either. |
