Factory style wiring harness
 

Hey Gang
I'm in the market to completly rewire my 1935 coupe. I'm looking for the best original style harness. Whats everyone's experience. I'm not sure who all is making or selling them.Also to who ever has tackled this anything to look out for or handy tips. Thanks in advance

Depending on just how quickly you're wanting to accomplish your project, I talked to Rhode Island wiring, as mentioned by DavidG above, approximately 1-2 months ago, I was told they were 6 moths out on orders AND that the gist of what I was needing, they would most likely not be able produce what we were needing ......a couple of employees had retired and they were backlogged. IF you are wanting something quicker, I would highly recommend Chris Olsen at Bauer in Oregon.... I contacted him at the same time about a custom harness for a RHD 35, from time of contact, getting proper measurements and added wiring locations to delivery of the harness to the freight forwarder in Delaware was "maybe" 6 weeks. He/They were a true pleasure to deal with, very professional AND it ended up at least $300 less than what I had predicted!!!!

Hmmmm. It seems like sometimes "the Ol' Reliable" ain't.

Handy tips….
Print large copies of the wiring diagrams for use while under the car.
Go for broke and determine to replace not one, but all harnesses.
Opt for addition circuits in your build order for future turn signals.
Clean all areas of grease and oil.
Locate and label all termination points on existing as well as new, and note exact routing of all wires.
Know that original bullet connectors were for convenience during assembly, and should, upon restoration, be soldered permanently, with the use of black shrink tube to simulate original.
You’ll find the switch bell at the bottom of the steering box to be clean inside, and must remain clean.
Replace as you remove while consulting your diagrams.
Dialectic grease is best used only with good tight stud/nut connections, regular grease with push connections having lighter contact.
While most difficult to replace, the wire and switch to the overhead light should at least be tested.

I got everything for my 52 from Chris at Bauer. He’ll even do small custom orders for your one off accessories if you need it done. I’ve heard he supplies a lot of the other sources as well.

To be 100% clear on this post......DavidG and Kube are correct....Rhode Island is the standard for Early Ford V8 wiring harnesses, they are 100% concours correct. IF that is your goal for your project, AGAIN, DavidG and Kube are spot on and I am in NO way intending to undermine their impeccable knowledge and attention to detail and the strength of their advice. I wanted to relay my experience with the two companies and the possibility OF an alternate source based off of what I learned from my experience, especially IF being 100% concours correct is not the goal of the project....which I should have more clearly stated in my original post. SO my sincerest apologies to DavidG and Kube for not more clearly and properly stating my post.

Plus one for Chris at Bauer, I just unboxed the full kit for our ‘35 and everything is first rate quality. Schematics for each assembly are clear. He even knew enough to ask to see the firewall to see if anything was different, which it was due to a headlight relay that he added connects for.

Price was a bit high but reasonable given the quality and content. And it all showed up within a week.

Y and Z in Redlands, CA. I've been to their shop and it's a first rate operation. They can customize if needed to your specs. Yes, there is a wait time but quality isn't overnight delivery. Worth checking them out. IMO

Tyre Harris ( ? ) I ve got 2 complete harnesses from him and excellent service and quality . Not cheap though

I can’t recommend anyone but something to be a where of .I fitted a new harness in my 34 around 10 years ago , don’t remember where I bought it . I had the radiator out recently and noticed the little rubber sleeve that goes over the plug in fittings was disintegrating ( cheap Chinese rubber ?? ) , horn , headlights , taillights etc . Could have lead to blown fuses or worse

The best supplier is (Class Tech) Bauer Electronics 62935 Layton Ave. Bend, Oregon 97701 541-389-7755 cell 541-410-8929 Fax 541-389-4441. They make a lot of the wiring for a lot of the suppliers.

For what it is worth, Rhode Island Wiring has been sold and has not reopened yet under
the name of Small's Auto Wire with the same original phone #401-789-1955. The last
time I dialed the number there was a message indicating they hoped to be able to begin
taking orders around January 6, 2026.

I've been looking for a harness too, thanks for the thread! I also need a wiring diagram, and wondering if the 1/2 ton is different from the 3/4 ton pickup? Or maybe the diagram is universal? TIA!

I’d check with Chris at Bauer. When I ordered my harness he knew to ask if I had headlight relays added on back in the day, which I did. Would never have known to ask.
