My boomerang just came back To start with, let me say that this F350 I drove home yesterday is not a good fit on this particular forum. I just thought my friends here might enjoy it. Also if the link doesn't work, then maybe someone here can go to youtube and search '59 F350 comes home' and post up a proper link. I built this old beast from a couple of different truck about 10 years ago and three years later sold it to a guy on the island. I spotted the pristine 9' flareside box with Merc tailgate for sale whe we were passing through Spokane Wa on a vacation. Then I bought a '59 stakebed truck to put it on. Then the sterling 10 1/4 rear axle from a '92 F350 along with a cummins 6at which I mated to a gm sm465 four speed. Anyhow the owner hadn't driven it since 2022 as the starter went bad. I ran into hime at the lumberyard and the subject came up and we arrived at a price sight unseen. Yesterday we pull started it and I drove it home the 20 miles with a HUGE grin I couldn't wipe off. Still can't.

Re: My boomerang just came back WoW ! that man needs to see a doctor, how could someone own that and not want to drive it? Really cool truck GB. I have an excess of slick side 1 tons at the moment, thinking of doing a cummins insert. A 9' box would be ideal, but there is a 8' flareside here in town that was taken off a truck the fire dept bought new in 73, and its been on blocks ever since. Wood is bad, but otherwise a new box, never hauled anything. Red, as is one of my trucks. Really don't need another project, but us growing boys have busy minds

Re: My boomerang just came back The "Prodigal Son" came home after Dad evicted him! Great story and a great truck!!

Re: My boomerang just came back I love people like this. Sell a good truck cheap rather than fix the starter. Years ago, I sold a guy I worked with my "beater" '60 Dodge for $200. The car ran good, drove good, and didn't look too bad. It did have a weak battery, a fact I apprised him of several times. Of course, during the first cold snap during a Minnesota autumn, it wouldn't start one cold morning. I got to work that day,and he comes storming into my office, demanding I take "that piece of shit" back. During lunch, I had a friend take me to where the car was. Of course, the sun was shining, and it had warmed up enough for the Dodge to start right up. I drove it back to work, put a used battery in it, and sold it two days later for $350.
The amazing thing is that after the original purchaser calmed down, he seemed to be perfectly happy to have rented a 10 year old car for two days for $200. |
Re: My boomerang just came back Yes, it was considerably less than I sold it to him for, along with a receipt in the glove box for 1900.00 and change for four new load range E toyo M-55s in my favorite size. 255 85 r 16. They are 33" tall for a bit of 'rubber overdrive', but narrow for the proper look on older trucks.

Re: My boomerang just came back Gary, this guy was a good friend for years but very "un-car savvy". In the end, my "Rental Program" actually seemed to be what he needed at the time, so who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth?
Do you actually remember the old Charlie Drake song "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" or is this just a coincidence? |
Re: My boomerang just came back I DO remember that , and the reference is intentional. I will admit it was more on my mom and dad's station, but I remember all those songs like 'Tammy's in Love', and another about a Panama Hat and maybe white shoe laces and then a lot of Bobby Darin and Johnny Mathis and of course Frankie. My upbringing came with a soundtrack of 'popular music' on the radio. On the subject at hand, I'm naming this truck Bob Seeger, because it sits 'Way up Firm and High'.

Re: My boomerang just came back "A big Panama with a Purple Hat Band" by Dodie Stephens, just to show how old I am.
|
Re: My boomerang just came back Well “Bob Seeger “ is a perfect name for it…….that truck has way more class than any of the $80k diesel trucks I see running around my neck of the woods……….Mark

Re: My boomerang just came back My story is this: An auctioneer friend of mine had an auction at a place I steered him to. There was an old Buick in really nice shape, the bidding stalled, (temporarily I thought), so I tried to get it started again. I bought it! Didn't want it! Paid $4200 for it, sold it on Ebay for $7250. A Buick dealer bought it.
Another time I decided to sell my F350 long box truck. I paid $300 for it, put new tires on it and a paint job. Decent truck, low mileage 4200 when I bought it, 4800 when I sold it on Ebay. I figured it would maybe bring $3500 on a good day. Brought $19,200. A Buffalo contractor bought it, bidding against someone from Saudi Arabia. The contractor told me when he picked it up it was identical to one his father had when he first started the business and was willing to go to 25K. Go figure! |
Re: My boomerang just came back Dang! What year was the F350? Any pictures?

Re: My boomerang just came back Gary I think that truck is super! That is a man's truck, not one of those lightweight things you see today. Real pickup trucks don't have a back seat!!!
