Tom's 8NV8

2 Attachment(s)
Texasroadkill wanted a pic or two of my 8NV8. Hard to upload pictures, so little bandwidth, but I'll keep trying.

The tractor is a low hour 1949, The engine is from a '49 truck. The nose may look like a stock 8N, but it has been widened slightly to accommodate a Ford truck radiator. The nose also has a slant to it. The exhaust manifolds are from an industrial engine and modified. We made a foot throttle, much better than a purchased one. Put er in 4th gear, step on it and hang on! I'll have to find another pic that shows her finished.

My goal was to create a V8 in what may have been Henry's vision, as it looks very factory.

A finished pic of my 8NV8. The tractor was completed quite a few years ago and stored since. In the meantime had a number of life's hiccups, so not much time to play with it. Hmm, Found pic but cannot insert image, it wants a URL ?? Previous uploading images went OK.

What kind of speed does it get in 4th gear?

Re: Tom's 8NV8

At least 30MPH, although I have not tried for the max.

Very nice tom. I really want to build one in a few years. Have a few parts 8ns and a few older flatheads sitting around. Looking at the kit, I forget the name at the moment they build thats modeled after the funk kit.

30 MPH on an 8N would feel like you are in a top fuel dragster,no?

How wide are the rear rims? And if you don't mind, how much did the turf rears set you back?

Seth, Yes I do. I was just reviewing them this morning. I will try again today, yesterday when I tried to upload another photo of the 8N it was not working.

I tried again, when I hit upload image it looks for URL???

The turf tires I spent $20 for them, they were nearly new, but my friend did not want them on a tractor he bought. Special circumstance for sure. Unfortunately, I do not remember the rim width. It is possible I have it in a file.

Found that when I went to "manage attachments" it worked.

Re: Tom's 8NV8

Last summer a friend bought an 8n that had a 302 with a Sherman step up transmission. Well done conversion, not all hacked up. Would spin both tires on tar taking off in 4th gear. Steering was nice and tight so it drove straight, but way too fast. He sold it before "I get into trouble!!"

There is a car shop / dealer up in Monroe city just north of me and he has three of these V8 ford tractors. I stoped and studied them but nobody came ot so I went on my way. The last thing I need is another project. Tim
