V8Coopman Fellow Barners, it is with great sadness that I report that Dick Davidson has passed into God’s arms. You knew him as V8Coopman.
My first encounter with Dick was about 10 years ago when I was looking for advice regarding putting better brakes on my ’36 coupe. Somehow we just hit it off and as many of you know, we tackled and, at least sometimes conquered, many projects. I never met Dick face to face but he was always there when I needed advice. As a perfectionist, usually he would be chastising me about some detail or another. I would just kid him and tell him I couldn’t even hear him laughing at my stupidity ‘cause I was clear down in Florida. I was always amazed at his knowledge about hot rods, physics, aircraft, and numbers. Good grief, the numbers. He could recite hundreds of part numbers and even chassis numbers from his vehicles and his friends cars. He once told me he had non-stop numbers flowing in his head. The last couple of years were pretty rough on Dick. He lost his long time bride, Connie in Feb of ’23. Things just seemed to go downhill from there and he passed quietly early this morning. Dickie was a great mentor to me and I will miss him greatly. Rest in peace my friend. Heard |

Re: V8Coopman Damn sad news, I didn't know him as well as others but the work I did with him on the differences between 39-41 Mercury's and Ford rear ends/driveshafts and frames will forever be a cherished moment for me. May he rest in peace and blessing to his remaining family!!! Just sad sad news!!!

Re: V8Coopman Very sad and sorry to hear this news.
RIP Dick. |
Re: V8Coopman I'm very sad to hear this news. RIP, Coop. He certainly gave back to our hobby for sure.
|
Re: V8Coopman Very sorry to hear this. Dick and I got along very well (unless we digressed into politics.) In addition to the old Ford's we both were into C2 Corvettes and saw most things the same way.
I'm going to miss him, his remarks, and his knowledge. RIP. |
Re: V8Coopman Rest In Peace V/8 Coopman. Dick will be missed a bunch.
|
Re: V8Coopman Heard, although very sad news, I appreciate you sharing it with me / us.
Dickie and I had our ups and downs through the past twenty or so years, but the ups far outweighed the downs. I pray he shall rest in peace. He deserves that. |
Re: V8Coopman So sorry to hear, he was a fountain of knowledge and wasn't afraid to share. He will be missed

Re: V8Coopman I have heard it said that there are givers and takers.Coop was a "giver extraordinaire" He always treated me with kindness answering my questions. I sure will miss him. A true stalwart supporter and contributor of our Fordbarn!

Re: V8Coopman I always looked forward to his sometimes salty, always helpful comments on the Barn, never had the privilege of meeting him in person. RIP Coop.

Re: V8Coopman RIP Dick. V8Coopman.
A Barn Constant. Another to add to the list of great contributors lost to this site. Rest in peace. |
Re: V8Coopman Another great loss to us. Hopefully his spirit will be reunited with the loves of his life.

Re: V8Coopman Dam such sad news Dick was a great guy he will be missed by so many. Personally having had the pleasure of talking with Dick and being fortunate to own some of his flathead gear knowing him was the best part of it all.

Re: V8Coopman Gosh, I don't want to believe that V8Coopman has passed. May God Bless him and may he rest in peace. I communicated many times with him on Fordbarn and his experience and knowledge were priceless. He always reminded me of the late Bruce Lancaster. V8 will be greatly missed. He was always willing to share his encyclopedia of old cars and things mechanical. I will miss him.

Re: V8Coopman Sad news indeed, his presence will be missed.

Very sad news indeed. Thanks Heard for letting us know. I never met V8COOPMAN - Dick Davidson from Lake Houston, Texas but we were in regular contact with each other. It was Dick who taught me how to enlarge pictures on Ford Barn. This is a picture of his 1937 Ford Coupe that he sold a few years back. Thank you V8COOPMAN for your friendship and contributions to Ford Barn. We trust that he is now at peace. Mercman <>< |
Re: V8Coopman Alway enjoyed reading anything Coop commented or posted on.
RIP |
Re: V8Coopman I saw the title and thought, no don't tell me we've lost another Great One. He offered me advice here on the barn several times, but we messaged one another a bit, usually about aviation things. I copy here one of his last pm's that kinda captured to me, his good nature.
Rest in Peace Dick, God bless. "You are one lucky guy getting some phenomenal time in a T6. I know what a beast that thing can be, especially on the ground. That thing will make a real man out of ya, eventually! I guess that because of my upbringing, to me...REAL airplanes have noisy ol' round motors and a little wheel on the tail. It's been fun, and you send a note this way any time, Bud! Holland Air Park, eh? You're living the GOOD life, my friend! Dick Davidson (DD)" |
Re: V8Coopman This one hurts. Dick and I emailed back and forth often. As his health declined, and his wife passed away the emails slowed down. With all the storms near Houston, I would check to see if he was alright. He was interested in my cars including the 57 FI C1 I am finishing up as I sent him progress pictures. We also discussed our fondness of round aircraft engines. This makes me very sad today but I will think of him often as we had many common interests.

Re: V8Coopman Truly a sad day, RIP DICK
|
Re: V8Coopman Damn! So sad. So much knowledge in one man, now gone. It's just damn-right depressing.
|
Re: V8Coopman He was a great contributor for years. God bless him and his family. Craig.

Re: V8Coopman Yes, DD was one of the guys that always had knowledge to chime in and
help on most any thing that members would need advice on, Great Guy. We will all miss you DD. May your sole Rest in Eternal Peace. :):) . |
Re: V8Coopman Thank you for letting us know. This is such sad news - I never met him but as soon as you got to know the man, he was really a great, helpful, and just an all around nice guy. He will be missed - rest in peace my friend ….

Re: V8Coopman Rest in peace, Coopman. The Lord’s peace to your family.
|
Re: V8Coopman So sad to hear, I really enjoyed his posts, such a knowledgeable man.
|
Re: V8Coopman The loss of a major contributor; may he rest in peace.
|
Re: V8Coopman RIP Coop... We exchanged various PMs, mostly over this past year and he always had the answer. I will surely miss this guy. Is that his coop above the photo of his coupe?
|
Re: V8Coopman Sorry to hear, RIP Coop.
|
Re: V8Coopman I guess I have a different way of looking at death. I figure he is in Ford coupe heaven with his wife and enjoying his new found capability. He doesn't need a bamboo bomber to fly the coop anymore. I dealt with a lot of FAA guys in my career and quite a few became friends in appreciation of old cars and airplanes. I never met him but like to think we could have been friends. Who knows, I might meet him in Ford heaven if I play my cards right.
Fly on Coop! |
