Marvel Carb User Group OK, rebuilt Marvel (2405) carb on the way from Rand Broadstreet. Asking here if there is interest in forming a users’ group. Also, anyone in contact with Robert Sumption?

Re: Marvel Carb User Group I’m in for a user group.
Great carburetor that gives fantastic performance on my A . |
Re: Marvel Carb User Group Me too, although what form would it take? I like Facebook special interest groups but not everyone is on there.

Re: Marvel Carb User Group I'm a solid fan of the Marvel; I have 6 of them. I also have Zeniths and Tillotsons - they each have their strong points and weak points but I prefer the Marvel.

They were sold under names such as Johnson, Sears Allstate, and Marvel Shebler. The color was natural pot metal but after cleaning and re-assembly, I painted some of mine black because I just liked the look.

Re: Marvel Carb User Group To answer initial question, user group may be a good idea for sharing fixes, parts exchange, etc. and performance issues.

After a good solvent cleaning in my parts washer, I spray the carb body with brake cleaner as a final cleaner because it because it removes any grease or oil films and dries without leaving any residue. Then painted with VHT gloss black engine enamel. |
Re: Marvel Carb User Group Been looking for a Marvel carb for my '31 but all I can come up with are carbs for tractors.
I have nothing against tractors, but I would like to use a carb specifically made for an old Model A banger. |
Re: Marvel Carb User Group Just put one on my 29,and so far I like it. Now I have to put heli coils on my spares mounting flange
|
Re: Marvel Carb User Group 49topless I have a Marvel carb but with all my problems have yet to try it on my A. You mentioned that all you can find are Tractor carbs. Can you please tell me the difference between a car carb. and tractor carb. ?

Re: Marvel Carb User Group I am also in. I have been impressed by the improved performance of the Marvel over the Zenith or the Tilly.
|
Re: Marvel Carb User Group Count me in . Had my marvel for a couple of years ,no issues, much better performance than my Zeniths. I made a micarta ( fenolic ) spacer between carb and manifold, prevents heat soak down from intake manifold to carb, when engine shut down, helps to prevent fuel expansion and fuel drips.

Re: Marvel Carb User Group I’m in. Already tried Zeniths, currently running a Tillotson, but I like the idea of more power. The pot metal body does not worry me.

I am very unfamiliar with the Marvel carbs and I do not know if those used on tractors, are the same or different that the Marvels used on Model As. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about, what seems to be, a very good carb for my Model A. Thank you |
Re: Marvel Carb User Group Anybody have contact information on the place that sells rebuild kits for the Marvel-Shebler?

Re: Marvel Carb User Group I believe the tractor carburetors do not have the GAV adjustment provisions.

Re: Marvel Carb User Group I have been running my Marvel for about 8 years.
I drove my A to our next town with the marvel. The drive is a steady 6 mile uphill run. My A screamed up the hill with the Marvel doing 55 in overdrive. I took the same drive with a brand new rebuilt Zenith. My A bogged down to 50 and I had to take the A out of overdrive to make the hill. Conclusion: The Marvel is a better carb than the Zenith on my A. JMO |
Re: Marvel Carb User Group I'm in. Have rebuilt a few and installed a few. One on the engine and one under the seat tuned to my car. Fun to offer a trial to someone that has not got theirs carb working, what ever it is, and see their smiles.
