i've been working on my speedster for 1 1/2 + years and now have it on the road. thanks to ford barners for help now and then as well as more hours and dollars than i want to remember. like any project there are bugs to be worked out, but i'm well pleased with the way it turned out. farmed out the upholstery and pin stripping and bought the sheet metal pieces for the cowl thru smith and jones ( rootlieb).

i got the paint # from an "a" i looked at last fall my pain't guy couldn"t find that number so i picked a color from his sample catalog and it isn't as dark as i had hoped. i'm already getting some ribbing about my "john deere" speedster.

And create a story - John Deere's personal speedster? John Deere raced the car often? John Deere was forced to sell this open speedster because riding in it messed up his wife's hair? Have fun with it - Photoshop could be your friend.....

Larry:

You did an outstanding job, I too was going to go the Smith & Jones kit way, but I found a metal boattail that I picked up in PA this past Sunday.

Where did you purchase the bar across the front bumper horns and the arms for the headlights.

Re: finally... speedster is on the road

about that "chrome " bar between the frame horns.... i was out at a local scrap dealer and saw a hand rail in their stainless scrap container. it had just enough straight to do the job, i suspect it is from a swimming pool. i welded up a couple of bolt holes and polished it out, made some end pieces on the lathe and used stainless bolts and washers to mount it. came out pretty good for an old hillbillys fabricating, what do you think?

i found the headlight mounts at the charlotte swap meet last fall. i've also got a pair i made from a cut down headlight bar, but the chrome ones were too good to ass up.

Great achievement!
And to think I need a nap after applying Rain-X to the little windshield!

Re: finally... speedster is on the road

i thought a lot about a ws, but i like the stream lined sporty look (no fenders either). i was told i would not like it with no ws, but i've been on motorcycles since the early 60's so a little wind in my face seems normal, and i ain't going on long cross country trips with it. thanks for all the positive comments!

Re: finally... speedster is on the road

IMO, no WS is fine - for a short time but wind and sun can burn your face quickly, especially your lips. Don't ask how I know. For appearances sake alone, I prefer the no WS look but wind, sun and rain soon has you wanting protection. I have been thinking of a speedster for a while and something just like that is what I have in mind but with a fold down WS.
Nice job.
