Wtf??? |
Re: Wtf??? Is that the special transmission that attaches to a Babbage engine?
|
Re: Wtf??? I think I know most of them. Been a while since I drove one of the old flat fenders though
Top right, transmission gear selector Bottom right, PTO Top middle, transfer case front output Bottom middle, transfer base rear output Left top and bottom, under/overdrive? (none of the ones I have driven have had this) These were marketed to farmers as being a substitute for a tractor after the war |

Re: Wtf??? Takes allot of practice to "Speed shift" this unit, I'll bet??
Gramps |
Re: Wtf??? These are known to be really popular with Octopuses - they have enough arms to handle ALL the levers and keep a couple on the wheel . . .

Re: Wtf??? And all this time I thought it was the prototype "Lenco Transmission"!?

Re: Wtf??? Same set-up I have in my '63 CJ-5, less the overdrive. A lot of stuff going on there.
|
Re: Wtf??? Real macho men know that more levers are better. My friend who is a heavy hauler guy has a 13 spd with a 3 spd auxiliary box behind that to have 39 gears. The Diamond T I built years ago had a 10 spd mack twin stick, and a PTO stick.
Overdrive in a jeep would be a good thing, not sure what to do with the pto other than run a winch as I have tractors for other needs. Lots goin on there , thats for sure ! |
Re: Wtf??? That is a jeep transmission hooked to the 18 Transfer case connected to over drive with a power take off. No problem.

Re: Wtf??? I'm looking for used overdrive unit for my 68 CJ5 so I can get it out more. Moved closer to town and people will run over you doing 45 in a 45 zone.

Re: Wtf??? Would take a real "shifty pearson" to deal with all that .... shifting ...... Three on the tree for me please !
|
Re: Wtf??? Good catch Gary, I didn't notice that!

Re: Wtf??? I'm like Seth, I always leave the keys in the ignition. Anyone that doesn't know old fords, first thing they do is turn the key; they've just locked the car! And the floor mounted starter button looks like the dip switch...

Re: Wtf??? more fun than a mack quad box ,one thing if it goes walkabout start looking at the old truckers home
|
Re: Wtf??? I worked for a trucking company that had 2 kw's with 4cyl gmc, 4speed main box, 4 speed aux, and a 2 speed rear. If you skipped a gear, you had to go back and get it.
They had no front brakes. They also had a Sterling chain drive truck. This was middle 1960's Bruce |

Re: Wtf??? Back in my early days when you did whatever the boss told you no questions asked, the boss says take that jeep out and plow the sidewalk and drive. It had a blade so a pto and looked like the levers pictured. This was at a creamery on main street, all paved from building to street. I didn't hit anything, but talk about a steep learning curve. It was the only time I have ever driven a Jeep. He did the same thing on an old 4cyl gas fork truck, when you get that pallet full go over and grab the fork truck, stack load and get another pallet. Then I started driving 13 speeds with splitters. Never wanted a Jeep though.

Re: Wtf??? When I was a lot younger man I had occasion to drive a rig with a 10-speed transmission and I became ather proficient at it, shifting without using the clutch and all. But one day I had the opportunity to ride with "an old timer" who was driving an old Mac with a Tri-Plex transmission. His mastery of those three shift levers amazed me as he sometimes used both hands to shift the levers, hooking one arm in the spokes of the steering wheel to guide the truck! He made it look effortless but it was more than that.
