Pickup Hello all! I’m looking a a 28-29 pickup for sale. Let’s just say it is roached!!! It’s mostly complete it’s in need of everything! I always wanted a project even though it will most likely/definitely require more money to get up and running then what it’s future worth will be. I would get it road worthy not looking to make a Barrett
Jackson. Anyhow the asking price is $2,000 The bed looks decent but like I said the truck need’s everything. I know it could be a touchy subject seeing you can’t see the truck but does anyone have any advice on what this thing is actually worth? I was going to offer $500 and prepare To dodge a few bullets LOL. Any help would be greatly appreciated |
Re: Pickup How about some details since you don’t have photos. Does it have an engine, transmission, rear axle? Is all the sheet metal there? Any interior? Does it have a title? Does it have usable wheels?
Re: Pickup Ok, it has motor not sure if it’s free, all sheet metal is there. It’s rotted but all there. Complete drivetrain. Has all 4 wheels, tires of course are bad. No interior as far as the pictures go. Title wasn’t mentioned I’m waiting for the owner to respond.
Re: Pickup $500 sounds about right:)
Re: Pickup That’s my thinking as well. Thanks
Re: Pickup if its the one on ebay, I already offered 1000. the guy said he would take my offer and then relisted it.
the running gear is worth 1000. and he stated the motor is free. dont think its worth anywhere near 2k, but depends how bad you want it? a decent running gear is worth at least 1000-1500. ps the owner never responds...... got him on the phone once. |
Re: Pickup Yes it is LOL. He hasn’t respond to email. I’m actually 20 minutes from him for a few days.
Honestly I don’t think I’d offer anymore then you did. Good luck to him I never understood why people post things for sale and aren’t proactive on selling. Theirs plenty more out there. Thanks for the info friend! |
Re: Pickup If the difference between $500 and $2,000 is important to you, I would advise anyone to just walk away. I'm going to say that the difference is insignificant considering what it's likely to cost you to just get it in decent running condition.
Re: Pickup Well said! Never thought of it that way! Thank you
Re: Pickup This guy sounds "strange". Look out for fraud.
Re: Pickup he has a 1 after his name. a newbie on the bay.
he told me 3 times that he owns 5 tow trucks. I guess he is proud of himself. lol no fraud involved. he probably towed it out for free and thinks he has the motherload. Thought my offer was good, but I was wrong....... |
Re: Pickup |
Re: Pickup Looks like yard art to me unless you are capable of extensive sheet metal work.
Re: Pickup jalopies, parade vehicles and doodle bugs can all be a good time, on a low budget.
Re: Pickup I’m sure he has zero invested.
Re: Pickup If the pickup you are looking at is the one I see on Ford barn by your add. You do not want it even if it is free. It is worthless or even worse than worthless. The bed might be worth $400.OO unless it is also rusted out. Do not get involved.

Re: Pickup Totally agree! More I looked at the pictures the more I thought the same as you guys. It’s barely good for parts sadly. He can keep it. Chances are he will sell it for scrap.
Re: Pickup Perfect for yard art!
Re: Pickup I would be seriously embarrassed to display that as "yard art"!!!
Re: Pickup Make a list of everything you will need to do to have the truck you want. Include the cost of each item. Post the list here and ask for comments. Ask your friends for comments. Check the current price of trucks in the condition you want. Compare the two. My guess is that if you were given the truck it would still be less expensive to buy one.

Re: Pickup you guys are tough..............
personally I have enough parts handy to polish up a turd as they say and get it running. its all in the "salvation" some of you folks need to hit a church on a Sunday! lol remember, there are 100 ways to collect cars some like trophys, some busted knuckles and some, just to sit and admire. others to drive......... |
Re: Pickup Well said ronn! We bought two A’s last summer. Luckily they didn’t need much to get on the road but we left them as is otherwise. We love them!!! I would love a show room car BUT I’d have more fun in as is driver! Not into rat rods but I’d drive the wheels off a rusty A any day!!!
Re: Pickup I’m not sure I would tackle a project as intensive as the one that struck up these conversations because I don’t have the parts or easy access to many resources. That being said I would still love to slowly build an A the way I’d like it piece by piece. You guys are the best I love the Barn! Learn something new everyday!!

Re: Pickup well we've got a bid............step right up......dont be shy..........
Re: Pickup All of the back of the cab pieces are available. The sides, back (both panels) and all of the wood. It is one of the body styles that you can almost remake. It would take some time, but in my opinion it is salvageable.
Re: Pickup And chuck is even advertising a drivers door for it. LOL
Re: Pickup actually wouldnt be surprised if the bid is his buddy........
Re: Pickup Ok fellas here we go! The wife and I stopped and looked at the truck in person on our way out of town. If you can believe it it’s wayyyyyy worse in person!! The poor thing is fully disintegrated!!! Not a good piece of metal on it. If it is metal it is rotted! If theirs a part on that old truck that doesn’t need to be completely replaced, rebuilt or just plane gone then there wasn’t one produced. If by luck just maybe the transmission and rear end may be salvageable. The oil filler tube is packed full of snow and ice on and on and on! Ronn id say thank goodness he didn’t take you up on your offer in my opinion anyway. Have a good weekend guys! Always fun chatting!

Re: Pickup thanks Lenny! good eye...................
Re: Pickup I bought one like that a few years ago for $200 and hauled it home. Only 20 miles away. I put a good gas tank in it, replaced the windshield and radiator and got it running. Engine smokes a lot. Now it's yard art. I agree with others have said. Unless it's free or nearly free, let it go.
Re: Pickup Mike, just put a little of dat oil thikener in der! lol
Re: Pickup If the 2 fenders in the photo are representative of the other 2, combined they could alone be almost worth $1000. The cab panels look reasonably good and are not difficult to repair or make. I would offer $1200 and not go beyond $1500.
Re: Pickup Can someone please post the general location of the truck. I see many usable parts in just one photo. CCPUs are usually rough, but not that common. The one in my albums was almost as bad, but was made a daily driver by plopping it on another chassis, adding new wood and almost no bodywork. My other CCPU is chopped and channeled over a hotrod chassis and started worse than the one in the ad. The cab back is very clean and the hinges are in the doors, thats better than many I've seen lately going for a premium. Of course its beyond reasonable cost for restoration, but certainly not scrap metal! Thanks! Chris, in Boulder

Re: Pickup Hello Chris the truck is located in Hudson Falls NY. It’s just south of the Lake George area. 100 Park RD Hudson Falls NY 12808

Re: Pickup Thanks!

Re: Pickup Thanks! hopefully someone up that way will get to it~ or get it to a place it can be used for a parts donor.
