Do they have any event that is open to the public ie. non EFV8 members?

69a, I don't know about events, but I do know that the EFV8 times magazine itself is well worth the $35/year ......

Re: 60 th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration

Concourse day, in this case June 15th, when the entered vehicles are judged, is effectively open to the public.

Just curious why you would not want to join the V-8 Club and receive the magazine? You don't need to go to meetings or do anything else other that wait for the mailman to bring you the magazine. There are other benefits like being able to attend all the events at meets and the magazine has sources of parts and technical advice for your car. There is also the advantage of receiving the magazine on-line.

Re: 60 th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration

The swap meet is open as well as any outside activities. Some special trips and the banquets are only for members who sign up (and pay).

JM 35 Sedan 01-04-2023 10:55 AM

Re: 60 th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration

The swap meet would be open to the public to walk through and make purchases, but normally you must be a registered member of the V8 Club to rent a space in the swap meet and to sell.
The public could also walk the hotel parking lots to view the vehicles any day during the meet in addition to the day of concourse. However, there are many vehicles that remain in trailers during these meets, only to be seen during the day of concourse, and then put back in their trailers.

Re: 60 th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration

Tom,

And you don't even have to wait for the mailman as membership includes both a hard copy and a digital copy of the magazine.

V8 Times Magazines are a great read.
Why not join the Early Ford V8 Club today?

To answer guy1unico's question, the Headquarters Hotel for the 2023 Grand Nationals is the Double Tree by Hilton, located on Ford Road, next to M-39, the Southfield Free-way.

Yes Lawrie, many do not drive their cars to these meets, but for us, that's a big part of the fun of owning these old Fords.

PS.....I signed up for this meet some time ago, and l am definitely looking forward to attending.

If you don't drive, you don't get the "I Drove" license tab. I have 2 different ones on my 1949 Ford front license. 2008 and 2018.

Where were you in 2013, Lake Tahoe?

Re: 60 th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration

In 2013, I was on a bucket list check off -- drove to Iowa, got on the California Zephyr and enjoyed our time traveling west and back.
I was also documenting the travels of the East Coast caravan on the EFV-8C web site Forum, as supplied to me by the leader of the caravan.
Back to the roots -- 2013 Lake Tahoe. Great time, beautiful scenery with great Early Ford V-8 members.

Didn't say I got a license tab for driving to Iowa and riding Amtrak. I didn't even get my Junior Amtrak Engineer pin.
But they did do a good job of keeping your vehicle safe in a fenced in area.

There wasn't a license tab for driving to Iowa? Like John, I have a 2013 tab on my '50 Convertible. Just didn't drive quite as many miles as John did.

Ken, that was the longest trip I've ever made in my '35 fordor sedan, 7200 miles. That was a trip of a lifetime, and something I've wanted to do since my early 20's.

Thanks for posting those pictures, mercman. They look better than the ones I took :-)
My car had about 3,000 miles of road dirt on it at that point, but I refused to wash it for the concourse, and the judges were not happy about that.

You will be missed, as my "last" Grand National we were able to break bread with you at the banquet and share your company. See everyone else there!!!

Trevor, wish you could have made it. You've done a super job in the past taking many great pictures!

Our friend Lawrie, is in Pennsylvania now. I think he said he was planning to hitch a ride on a Ford Trimotor before heading to Dearborn for the '23 GNM.

Looking forward to the meet and seeing my Ford friends.

Going to miss talking to my RG8 friend Alan Wall, who has passed away.

I went to the EFV8 Central meet at Auburn in 2011, which was my first club event.

I only knew a couple of people.

Some guys don't want to talk.

Alan was a great guy and took the time to talk to a new guy like me.

I was so intrigued by his original 1932 Ford at the 2011 EFV-8 Auburn meet.

He spent quite a lot of time telling me about it.

No attitude and always nice to me.

I knew I was in the right club after talking to him at the Auburn 2011 meet.

RIP Alan. You are missed.

You'll be an excellent candidate for the Eastern National Meet in 2024 in the Thousand Island region of upstate New York.

Re: 60 th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration

Well it starts today (Sunday)
Weather is looking (??) like it will be wet during down hours (night) so far.
As a follow up -- the Friday travel was a lot longer than planned. Fourteen hours plus -- Chicago, Indiana and Michigan all had road construction. Not to mention that our kidney and dental work suffered from the bumps in the road.
Hope everyone has safe travels.
