Vallue difference between a '33 & 34 5 window coupe

Is there difference in value between a '33 & '34 5 window coupe that are exactly the same except the years ?

Exactly the same? I'd guess no. Did I guess right?

Depends on whether you value style more, or performance. I prefer the styling of the ‘33 one day, and the next day I like the more powerful engine. A large number of ‘33s, however, have a later fuel system anyway, so that leaves style as the decider for me!

I have always liked the '33 grill over the more bulky '34. I would tend to think the '33 might bring a little more money.

Re: Vallue difference between a '33 & 34 5 window coupe

I like them both and have had a good number of each, but in the lighter colors, the misalignment of all those different angled lines of the edges of the hood side panels, hood louvers, and edge of the front doors on a '34 give the '33s the edge styling wise, especially the Canadian '33s with the optional body-colored fenders, etc.

Notwithstanding, comparing stock to stock, body type to body type, the '34s seem to be somewhat more valued $ wise.

Our 34 3w sits in the shed under a car cover, under used, our 33 fordor, sits in the other bay next to the roller door and is used most weeks.the 34 is pristine, the 33 has stone chips and scratches.
the 33 is the most valued in the family.

All Ford Coupes 1932 thru 1936 are stunning:):) Also like the '37's and the '39-'40's they are classics.

Three windows are always a favorite. I love 'em all it is hard to pick a favorite!

Well I admire them all 1928 to 1937 but I recon the 34 has it plus the good performance. Regards, Kevin.

Agree. Picking my favorite Ford would be like picking my favorite song. There are a couple dozen songs I would put on my all-time favorites list. Picking ONE as THE favorite is kinda impossible.

Circle trackers preferred the better rear quarter vision of the 5w, and so do I for driving. Newc

That part is easy. "Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes" (Be My Baby") wins hands down. That gal was HOT. I can't help on the rest except to say I think '34's are the best styled Fords, ever. (It's something about the saggy bottom of the '33 grille.)

I have a prejudice toward '34 Fords. I've owned two '34 roadsters. The first one I bought in 1954 and sold it in 1959 and always wished that I kept it. That one was a hotrod. The next one I bought in 1995 and I still have it. I think that they are the best-looking cars that Ford ever made. Also, 1934 is the year I was born which adds to my prejudice.

'33 - First year of production for the Model 40. In many cases, the first year of production cars have many quirks/problems that get ironed out in the second year of production. The '49 Ford comes to mind here. The '34 is the better of the two cars, hands down...

Robert, that's a great story, and great pic of your car in the fifties. Wish I had a pic of the tired '50 coupe I dug out of a snow bank after the Chicago blizzard of '67. (It was a coupe! Worth saving from the junk yard.) Drove that coupe every day to community college, and then drove it to Peoria when I had to go away to college. Would love to have a young man / old man photo comparison like you showed us there.

I sure don't get tired of looking at THIS photo! Neat, neat car! It definitely has 'the look' what a stance. And with blackwalls and black rims, they really set the car off.

A guy over in Geneseo has a bone stock original '34 five window coupe that he bought from the original owner. I love seeing that car!!I look for it first thing when I am over there at their annual car show!

These old Fords are not just antique cars they are works of art:)

Re: Vallue difference between a '33 & 34 5 window coupe

Excellent post!
Style-wise, it's eye of the beholder one can safely say.

Personally, whether 3w or 5w, the '33 is it! . . . . . . . . with its 'shovel' 36-bar grill, the 36 bars hide the radiator core.

The '33 hood side vents are slanted with extremely-slight ‘S’-slants on an angle, the

‘S’-slants thus share the overall body-fenders low-look and designed gracefulness as opposed to the '34 straight slants, but the general public were 'clueless' and hadn’t a thought about it, really, although those ‘in the know’ would've noticed these vents at first glance.

I gotta say, though, the '34 chrome grill surround being more substantial, particularly across the top, has it over the '33 wimpy surround.

The '33 interior machined dash-gauges cluster is a prize to the eyes, as opposed to the '34's eh . . . let's-just-paint-it-and-get-it-outta-here decision.

Just a couple/few comments. Thank you!

highbeams Pat Malone

P.S. '33 hubcaps have it over the '34s in design, as well as the 1 5/8"+ - longer '33 headlight! Oh, and ; the '33 V8 grill emblem; can't argue, everyone would much rather have that on their '34 grille.

Pat Malone here, Mr. Tubman! Your term 'saggy' is an 'indifferent' description.

I suspect if you averaged out all the sale prices of the two model years they're going to be pretty close to the same.

Re: Vallue difference between a '33 & 34 5 window coupe

The 34 grille, louvers on the side of the hood, and stanchions for the windshield on a Roadster and Phaeton are all at a 33-degree angle. That gives it symmetry for my eyes.

I just count myself lucky to have been able to acquire just one of them. My 33 is a 5W.
