Sad news

I have sad news for you. John passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at approximately 2 pm at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He had been in and out of the hospital since 2/7/22.

I believe he told you about his medical problems. I was there with him until the end. He died peacefully and in no pain. He had been through a lot and I am glad his suffering is over. I have the

support of good friends, neighbors and family. I am glad you were able to go to Bonneville together. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. The hardest part is yet to come.

I received this this morning, he was my mentor an friend. I will miss him deeply. Go with God, rest in peace,
Ol\ Ron

Re: Sad news

John Lawson (JWL) knew more about the combustion cycle than any other person or reference book I ever read, he once told me that the only thing that makes hrsepower is Oxygen. His book "flathead facts" has more useful information in it, than all the rest of them put together. I hope to live long enough to finish the engine I'm building with his intake modifications. I'll miss him.

Sorry for your loss of friendship Ron. Prayers to his family. Especially sorry not to know him given he seems to have lived close to me……as St Vincent’s is about 7 blocks from my office, 15 blocks from where I grew up so he had to have lived somewhat close to me and being a life long resident here in Jax, and a Flathead “guy” I never heard of him. So sorry!!!

My God, we've lost "JWL"? I wondered about that when Ron first mentioned "John".

Those of us that have 'lived' in this Ford Barn Community for any length of time must realize what a tremendous void that losing John means to our little world here, not to mention the Ford Flathead engine world losing a gentleman that sought to expose as many of the old Flatty's secrets as he could.

I'm really at a loss for words, friends. Prayers for John, as well as for his family!

I suspected for awhile. He was a good friend and one of the early members of the 500 hp naturally aspirated flathead club.

Being kind of a "Newbie" around here, I wasn't sure of who Ron was referring to, but I had a bad feeling. I did a little looking around, and my worst fears were confirmed. The first two Flathead Books I purchased were John's and Ron's.

I with the rest of you in expressing my condolences and mourn the man as well as the knowledge we have lost.

Hi Ron; X2 On the man John was. He and I exchanged emails for years. He wrote me about taking you to Bonneville after I wrote to him about the first time I drove us up to spend some time with Walt DuPont. He loved the photos I used to send out of our lab litters, black females were his favorite. He always spoke highly of you and I have always agreed. We will always have great memories. God bless John and you, Craig.

I had the honor to meet and spend time with JWL years ago at his home and shop. He was just writing his book and sent me home with a pile of pages to go through. His shop and projects he was working on was amazing. Incredible man. RIP John

Re: Sad news

When I went to Johns for the first time, he ut me to work cutting the grass. He had a fenced in yard that he told me not to cut because he had some watxh dogs in there that weren't very friendly. I finished the outside, didn't see any dogs so went in and cut the grass. The dogs came out of a shed and wouldn't let m me out.. There was an Akagator in the pond and snakes in the out house, And John got along with all of them.
