New '35 Purchase

3 Attachment(s)
Good evening to you all! I just purchased a '35 Tudor Deluxe and have been searching and reading a lot on this forum. I must say that you guys are awesome with the input and experience and patience that you put out for others to absorb and use. I have owned and restored a '46 Ford pick up and a '40 Ford Convertible back in the mid '70's, so I am finding now just how much I have forgotten or just don't know. The '35 I now own is in very nice condition with 42K miles on the odometer, complete restoration in 1990, and owned by the original owner and family up until 2 years ago. So technically I'm the 3rd owner, I guess. I got the car yesterday and have already put about 150 miles on it. Runs great! No real mechanical problems except for the drive-line vibration between 35-43 mph. Just enough to aggravate the ride. So tomorrow I'll get underneath and check the drive shaft lubrication that I've been reading about here and let you know the outcome. I look forward to learning more from you all and again want to thank you!

Love the look of your 1935 Ford Deluxe Tudor Touring Sedan, but where are your Chrome Strips on the Running Boards?
The Chrome Strips on the Running Boards were standard only on the Deluxe Tudor and Deluxe Fordor Touring Sedans, and the Convertible Sedans. They were optional on the other body styles. Your Deluxe Tudor Touring Sedan should have them?

Hello. Nice looking car. The 35 shouldn't have a driveshaft center bearing so the only lube you can apply is to the UJ housing. Many people recommend John Deere Cornhead grease for that application.

Mart.

Vibration could be tires or unbalenced pressure plate???

Beautiful. Hope you get many miles of enjoyment from it. I am somewhat limited in my restoration/rebuild skills and I also enjoy this forum as a great resource as those with experience and knowledge share their insight in a kindly way.

BobR35, it the glass on your new ride tinted by a certain percentage or is there simple film on the safety glass?

Be sure you have a copy of the Early Ford V8 Club's book that covers the '35 Ford (Christmas present maybe?). It won't tell you how to do the work but it will tell you how everything is to be when it is finished.

Yes, I see that. The car was restored 30 yrs ago so I'm not sure where they went and I'm sure there are some other bolts and nuts that are not original. I'm going to drive it regularly, so it's not going to be a garage Queen. I won't tell anyone that they're missing, lol. All kidding aside, thanks for pointing that out, I'll keep an eye out for them while at the flea markets.

Awesome! Congrats! I'll watch for you at the shows and introduce myself. I've already put 200 miles in 2 days on mine.
Enjoy the ride!!!

Great looking car FlatheadTed! I just checked out the brake link and that is very impressive. I'll be thinking about that modification. I saved the link.

Re: New '35 Purchase

Thanks Mart, I read a bunch about that lube issue at the joint and did just that today. I went and got the JD grease and pumped all of 1 1/2 tubes into it. While I was there I naturally greased all the fittings. Took her for a ride and walla! Really a huge improvement and very smooth. Also changed the oil and to my surprise it takes 6 qts! I must say that I'm a little disappointed in the fuel mileage, only 12-13 mpg. I guess those 411 gears and no overdrive really kills it. Anyways, I'm enjoying the hell out of driving it, 200 miles in 2 days and I haven't left town!!

You know, I just might do that! I guess you're not getting outdoors much up north there. This week has been fabulous, 50-65*, sunny and perfect to ride! I'm not having much luck today posting pictures never mind a video, but I'll try.

The SS Running Board Strips for 1935-1936 Fords. The Original Running Boards and SS Strips have a slight dip, whereas, some Reproduction Running Boards and SS Strips are straight? Two kinds, so be careful. You can't mix and match. You have to make sure which Running Boards are on your car before buying the SS Strips. Check out the above photos. The Running Boards on the Gold car are Original and are not straight, while the ones on the Black car are Straight.

I can't figure that out, I know they look tinted but there's no tint applied. The glass looks original, so what do you think?
