15" Rims
 

My brother is looking for a useable set (4 or 5) of stock 15" rims for his '46 coupe in the Reno Nevada area. Speedway has rims with 7" bead width, but at $120 each, beyond the budget. Nothing on Ebay or Third Gen. Any suggestions where to look.

I had my last set custom made, don't remember the price, but it wasn't that bad. And a lot of that was the shipping. There is a shop in LA I think, I could look it up if your interested.

A factor here is whether he wants to run stock hubcaps or not. If not, wheels should be easy to find, from '49-'51 Mercs and a variety of Ford pickups. If so, he is limited to the venerable '48 Merc wheel, a much smaller selection of Ford pickups, or custom made.

Agreed. If he just needs 15" wheels, a trip to the junkyard would do. Ford pickups and econolines used those into the '90's. If he wants to run the stock type cap, then he needs '46-48 Merc or F1-F100 up until around '56 wheels. They are out there but you'll probably need to post a wanted ad or start shopping swap meets.

The pickup 15" wheel for the stock style hub caps are 1956 to 66 and still a lot of them still around for $50 each and less.
I have found them in good shape in junkyards with a junk tire and if you offer to take it with the junk tire the price gets cheaper

X2. There has to be a junk yard in or near Reno/Carson City that has some older Ford pickups.

Agreed with many of the above comments. For example, I am still storing two 15" wheels that came on a 64 pickup (that I bought new). They take the early hubcap. So, I think there ought to be wheels available in your area. I'd offer mine for free, if we weren't separated by a few thousand miles.

The original poster put the notice up for his brother who lives in the Reno area. Reno is not that far from Placerville.

You're ARE correct, Skids! So, we both know that 5-1/2" wide pick-up wheels are all over the place through '66, for the early caps. DD

A while ago, I bought a set of 15" rims. Three of the four have "knubs" for the hub caps while the fourth has spring like fingers riveted on. Who made each of the two types?

The one with the springs added, i have had them and they are mid 50s lincoln wheels. Original they were just smooth no clips because they had full size hubcaps

I have had them marked ford, fomoco and KH.

I bought 5 of these a couple of years back for my ‘41, got them on sale for $59. Each I think.

Well, little more difficult to sort out than I thought! My last purchase was for 2 custom made rims (different offset and width than normal), but had them powder coated and the shipping is in there, so? $376 for the pair, that's $188 each. But again, not sure how much was powder coat and how much was the rims.

Don't recall the width between the beads, but at least of passing interest the early Jeeps were 5-1/2" bolt pattern with the large center hole as required for 4x4 hub clearance, however they lacked the nubs for hub caps as the hubs protruded too far. I had once purchased a set of (5) NOS rims as mentioned, at an Army surplus outlet. Anyone on the hunt might ck. the 4 wheel drive & surplus outlets.

Another option would be the small Suzukis. I know my 95 Sidekick had 5 on 5 1/2" wheels similar to Jeep.

I have ‘72 F100 wheels on my ‘51F1. They are same bolt pattern as ‘40 through ‘48 cars n up to,’50 Mercs.
Took me a while to find hub caps but I did some work for a guy that for some reason had 6 of them.
He gave them all to me.
I like 15” tires, I hate tubes.

For used stock wheels try craigslist or offer up. If you want a special width try Collins wheel in Bellflower, Ca.

I purchased my 15" wheels from Wheelsmith in CA. They build vintage styles to accept stock caps. You can buy them unpainted to help keep the cost down. They are good people.

Hi; Just for info, the Jeep wheels are either civilian or military. The military are heavier steel and had a 1/16th " hole drilled by bolt circle for ID. More valuable too. Newc

Try Summit for US Wheel, Deuce (Series 544), 15x7, 5x5-1/2 BC, back space 3.75, takes stock hubcap, bare steel, vented like OE.
