A New L@@K

I wanted to go back to the original rims on my car for a more period correct look. The old tires were dry rotted and the chrome rims were rusting in places.
I love the new look. Took it to a car show yesterday and had a lot of folks looking at the Merc. It was great to enjoy a car show again. About 100 cars, band, and food to honor a a local policeman.

53MERC,
I'm with you on the wheel issue. My car when I bought it with chrome rims and the way it looks now.

Good choice, and the added benefit being the "patina guys" will probably buy the rusty chrome rims from you!

What's with da bears at the upper, right in picture? Real, or fake-out? If real, watch out for da bears ! DD

A great improvement. My first car in high school was a '53 Merc Monterey. Flathead with a Merc-O-Matic, Dual exhaust, lowered, and non functional lake pipes.

The old 53 is sure looking good. What size tires? I've put P235-75s on my original wheels. Tight fit to install the rears but I like the look of a fat tire on these cars.

That '51 use to belong to a friend of mine, Roger (Luckyfordguy).
I always liked his '51,,,Roger still has his very nice '50 two door.

It L@@KS 1@@@ times better. Those 80s wheels just look completely out of place.

LOL. Those are fake. I bought a full sized pattern and made them a few years back. They don't eat anything but sawdust. LOL.
We do have the real deals here though. They are spotting about every day in our neighborhood looking for food. I hate BBQing outside this time of year. Spooky not being able to see all around me.

Hi Ralph,
I just went with the same size as what came off. There are P205 - 75's.
Hoping to eventually get wide whites. These were only $63 each delivered from Wallymart.
Have a great week Sir,
Doug

Sometimes you just can't beat/improve on the original looks of these old FoMoCo vehicles....just as they looked when they rolled off the assembly line.

Re: A New L@@K

John, you are right. They look great in stock form , but do need to be lowered a little.

I've never understood the attraction for lowering vehicles but a lot of people seem to like it. I prefer the stock look just the way they were when new. Not too high or too low.

AMEN, Brother. Preach on.

As to lowering. As seen in the before and after pictures of my car, I put it back stock. You should of seen the "lowering blocks" on the front! What an abortion!

Re: A New L@@K

The ones I can stand and don’t understand are the twenties and thirties cars that sit so low in front that the passengers slide off the seats and there is no room for suspension movement in the front.
