Re: What product best for white walls tires Comet powder with bleach, worked well for me.

Re: What product best for white walls tires I believe Westly is the name of the cleaner that has been around for
years. It has bleach in it and softens the surface of the tires. You can see the yellow turn white as you scrub I doubt anything will work better. G.M. |

You don't say how old your tires are. They my not whiten up if they are older tires. When I got my new wide 6:00-16 wide whitewalls from Universal Tire in Hershey three years ago, I asked what they recommended for a cleaner. The answer was; rinse them down with water to get off loose dirt/road dust, spray on Simple Green, let soak for a few minutes (don't let the SG dry out), then scrub with a good stiff brush while rinsing with water. repeat as needed. It has worked well for me. In this pic the tires have had three summers on them.

Re: What product best for white walls tires To follow-up on what oldford2 stated, the Technician at Universal did say, "Don't use sandpaper, steel wool or Brillo pads, as they will leave scratches in the whitewall.". The tech also said to use a scrub brush with stiff natural fiber bristles, as oppose to nylon, as nylon can scratch the sidewall as well.

Re: What product best for white walls tires Instructions with my new Diamondback whitewalls. Do not use ANY bleach products. Recommended cleaners:Simple Green, 409 or Castro Super Clean. Use abrasive cleaning pad-220 wet/dry sand paper, ScotchBrite pads, sponges, etc.

Re: What product best for white walls tires I didn't mention it, but my tires have all the raised markings that FIRESTONE tires had on them back in the day, so using anything but a brush would start to remove the raised lettering. For the purists, as near as I can find, the '46 year cars did not come with whitewall tires, but as an after sales install. I my case, I think the car looks much nicer with whitewalls.

Re: What product best for white walls tires Another vote for simple green.

Re: What product best for white walls tires I have heard the the currently available version of "Westley's Bleche-Wite" is formulated differently from the original product and is less effective. Fortunately, I bought a couple of gallons of the old stuff years ago; it's almost gone, though.

Re: What product best for white walls tires I have used the hand wipes and what worked better were the Mr. Clean magic eraser. You wet it like a sponge and wipes the wall back to "white".

Re: What product best for white walls tires Just for grins and giggles I looked Westley's Bleche-Wite up on eBay.......you can buy two for $195!!!!! Or “best offer”

Re: What product best for white walls tires When I got my new tires for my 40 from Diamond Back they recommended Simple Green.

Re: What product best for white walls tires simple green and soft brush to get the dirt out the white shoe liquid polish dries in a nice semi gloss really makes them pop
|
Re: What product best for white walls tires I would never use any abrasives on my white walls . I use a degreaser called oil eater. It is a bio degradable product. Spray it on and let it set for a few minutes. Use a hand scrub brush and lightly scrub the white area. Works great on black walls also . Afterwards I would use some rubber protectant . Works fantastic.

Re: What product best for white walls tires A few years ago I resurrected the white walls on my boss’s 40 coupe from death. He wanted replace them just because the white was so off color. I tried many of the products mentioned but still looked bad.
My fix. Gloves on large stack of clean white shop rags & lacquer thinner plus lots of “elbow grease”. All 4 looked brand new after an hour a piece. Still look great today. Cheers Tony |
Re: What product best for white walls tires Tony
I believe your solution can fix a lot of appearance issues. Seems we want to believe, spray this stuff on and rinse it off, works like magic, just like on TV. Bruce |
Re: What product best for white walls tires AWESOME at the Dollar store.
Paul in CT |
Re: What product best for white walls tires I use a general purpose cleaner like Simply Green and green Scotchbright pad.

Re: What product best for white walls tires Hey Tony you mention an important item, gloves. Any of these super cleaners can destroy the health of your skin. As a teen, at $1.75, I used to hand wash cars. Westley's and a brass bristle brush was always included. No problem, but years of toil and neglect leave me grabbing for gloves. That way I can sleep at night without the pain.
The look of a white wall on the right car is priceless. Some cars look just fine with black sidewalls. These days its a treat to see that halo. |

Re: What product best for white walls tires Castro Super Clean does work great but be careful with it. It can also remove paint and is very hard on bare skin.

Re: What product best for white walls tires As a teenager, I always used Comet Cleanser and a scrub brush - 90 cents for the cleanser (todays prices) . . . I believe you'll like the results!

Re: What product best for white walls tires The product sold by Coker's tires was a complete useless effort. Dont waste your money on it....
|
Re: What product best for white walls tires The solution is to run Cooper classic blackwalls. $97 a piece for steel belted radials at Discount. Don't drive on tires older than 8-10 years. White walls or not.
|
Re: What product best for white walls tires I rescued 4 whitewalls that had been dirty for years, yellow and grease marked. I used my random action electric sander, the one I use to finish wood projects. I think I used 220 grade paper and a bit of water. The result was very good. It is possible to sand off too much, so I kept an eye on my progress. I don't know of any other method that would have cleaned up these tires.
