39 ford convertible value Neighbor has one for sale not running, and some reassembly required for around 30,000. I’m thinking around 15-18,000. Had it for 30- 40 yrs. always in a huge indoor facility. Burgundy in color, not sure if it is deluxe yet or not. How do I tell the difference in std. and deluxe?
|
Re: 39 ford convertible value Could be wrong but pretty sure the Convertible came in deluxe only.
|
Re: 39 ford convertible value Thanks, any idea on my valueing of it.

Re: 39 ford convertible value 2 door or fordor convertible ?
|
Re: 39 ford convertible value Value is going to depend on how much rust, how complete is if someone has butchered it and put a garbage truck engine in it. All original, complete with little rust will put it on the far side of 25K.

Re: 39 ford convertible value Look at what you can buy a nice car and drive it home, then divided the price in half. Lots of projects popping up for sale

Re: 39 ford convertible value In '39 Ford only produced two Convertible styles, a TuDor Convertible Coupe with a Rumble Seat and a ForDor Convertible Sedan. I believe both Convertibles were only available in Deluxe trim. I have had my '39 Convertible Sedan for 29 years and I'm ready to let her go. She's all original except for a set of Red's Headers & Brockman Mellow-Tone steel packed mufflers. For some unknown reason, I can't get a photo to upload... If anyone is interested in knowing more about my '39 for a possible purchase, PM me. Thanks. Vic

My vote would be for the standard. Bruce |
Re: 39 ford convertible value The car is a two door convertible. I hope to get some pictures later today. Would people on here give a quick price for it then.

Re: 39 ford convertible value Why would you go with the Std.?
|
Re: 39 ford convertible value Depends on if it is a 2-dr or 4-dr convert.
The value of each is significantly different. There is a very solid '39 convrt. sedan project on the HAMB for 14,500. It has not sold in over two weeks. I have had both models and feel the 2 -dr is probably worth twice what the 4- dr is worth. Demand for the 4-dr convert sedans isn't nearly as great. They are both beautiful cars. |
Re: 39 ford convertible value I thought that this thread was about '39 convertible values. Since all of them were deluxe models, the addition of standard models (all closed cars) to the discussion is rather off target.

Re: 39 ford convertible value I hope to take pictures this evening, maybe I can get a better description for you guys

Because a Standard was cheaper than a De Luxe. Some folks -or companies- needed just a basic car. No need to purchase a De Luxe and incur the additional cost. So, the Standard was the choice for the economy minded Ford buyer in 1939. |

I like the look of the standard as well. Lloyd D's really nice 39 Standard was displayed at EFV-8 Central National Meet at Springfield, IL. |
Re: 39 ford convertible value Interesting, but what has this to do with the value of a '39 convertible? That's what this thread is about. I'm with "DavidG" on this.

I guess it has to do with the OP asking what the difference is between a Standard and De Luxe. That is my guess. I could be wrong. |
Re: 39 ford convertible value RobertShreveport
What you are asking is a difficult answer....most on here are savvy V8 Ford owners and specifically 39 enthusiast.....so to safely say they know the in's and out's even better than me is an understatement. There is ALSO a lot of factors for even me to educatedly give you an answer....First for me is rust, how much and where, second is sheet metal straightness, third would be completeness (and Correctness) and fourth would be running gear (Running or not running, shifting..if so does run and drive does it grind, pop out of gear etc etc). I am more mechanically adept than paint and body work savvy so I would be willing to pay more for a very solid straight car that doesn't run than maybe other would. Then what are you wanting to do with the car.....If it doesn't run it lowers the price AND IF its not the correct year flathead..it lowers the price again....For ME!!!! Just as you have posted..... with out pictures or any "real" description (and everyone's eye and description is different and or accurate) its a very difficult to say!!!!! Post pictures, they'll be plenty who will pick them apart for you and give you the pro's and con's THEN you can get a better feel for value!!!! |
Re: 39 ford convertible value Rusty floors.
All other panels and fenders need some work. Motor not going. Needs top, upholstery, tires, electrics, paint etc. Around $20K I guess. At least that's what I paid for one several years ago. |
Re: 39 ford convertible value lets say you buy it for 20,000 can you do the work your self if no figure 10,000 paint job 3-4 thousand for eng rebuild 5-8 thousand for inter. & top 5-6 hundred for tires then there,s brakes crome plating tie rod ends fan belts weather strip & a host of other stuff. buy one done . it,s cheaper

Re: 39 ford convertible value I have some pictures now of the 39 but can’t put them up here. If someone would be so kind I will email them to one of you and post them here

Re: 39 ford convertible value Took pictures today the car looks good to me outside and the interior is all there. No dents all chrome and interior gauges. All the grill and front seat is leather but not sure if original type good door panels. Windows roll up and down nicely, doors open and shut good. Underneath I see at rear seat area trunkfloor has lot of rot. To me a complete car.
Jseery is going to post pictures for me. Let me know what you think |

Re: 39 ford convertible value Theres a great looking '36 drophead on evilbay today for 19,600 We all think our stuff is worth more than it is. me included. But that '39 is a very sweet car. Even better when the sealed beams are gone.

Re: 39 ford convertible value 3 Attachment(s)
And again.
|
Re: 39 ford convertible value Looks nice in these photo, I agree about the headlights, like the originals much better myself.
|
Re: 39 ford convertible value Compared to the 36 if you paid $10k for the 39 it would cost you more than $19.6k to make it look as good even doing all the work yourself. Checked out the price of paint lately? Unlikely to spend less than $2k on name brand paint materials by itself without labor.

Re: 39 ford convertible value Between the lack of drain holes in the floor immediately in front of the rumble seat bottom cushion and the water retention tendencies of the jute backing on the underside of the floor mat, heavy rust or rust through is common on '37-'39 cabriolets/convertibles even when the rest the body is in good shape as this one appears to be. I don't recall anyone making a reproduction of that unique section of the floor.

Re: 39 ford convertible value Looks like a $30K car to me.
I've had 3 of them. |
Re: 39 ford convertible value Going to pass on the car.

I hope a good restorer gets that one. It deserves to be restored to it's former glory. They are nicest looking of the Ford Cabriolets. Ken |
Re: 39 ford convertible value Depending on the price, i would just make it a driver. Plenty of high quality restored cars that can be bought for a fraction of the cost to restore one correctly.
