Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Installing new front and rear springs. Using Roadster 7 leaf rear spring to soften up ride in my 30CCPU. Also finally going to install that set of Stipe shocks I bought a couple years ago.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? if all goes as planned may be completing an engine rebuild. She runs pretty good now, just want to her the ol' girl run smoother for many years to come

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? I will be cranking and rolling into town (9 miles) for the weekly ride. Did the routine check of tire pressure, oil level, water and vermin escaping the cold weather. If the Good Lord's willing and the creeks don't rise, I'll have a pleasant 1/2 hour trip.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Mine are stored for the winter . I go out to my storage areas and look at them from time to time I keep the batteries charged except for the ones with dead 6 volt batteries . I've got the parts for a 12 volt upgrade on two of them but will probably wait for spring .

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? My 2 1930 Fords are sitting in my garage waiting for spring. Its too cold and snowy to drive them now. I don't have heaters in either one of them .

The pickup and the phaeton are parked in storage until the weather warms.
My most recent purchase, '31 S/W Town Sedan, is being outfitted for comfortable touring with a clam-shell teardrop camper in tow. Body is being painted and the chassis is almost ready to go. The trailer needs to be finished...but the '31 S/W is getting priority. Good Day! |
Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Driving it all day.......when freezing i'll put on an extra sweather and gloves

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? 1 Attachment(s)
Replacing timing and crank gear along with pulley. Glad I decided to do this as when I went to remove the crank bearing I realized the U-bolts that was holding the axle in place were to short and the nuts were on with only a few treads with no lock washers not on far enough for a cotter key.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? I have been driving it most of the winter I have it in the shop right now putting a 2 speed in it from Mitchell

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? I'm putting new valves in my sport coupe, and continuing the overhaul on my coupe engine. As I get older the work gets more difficult every week, but I'll keep at it till it's done.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? This winter.... New tires, Gross brakes, Stipe shocks, radiator, front and rear springs, interior upholstery, wiper motor, and converted steel bed to wood. Plus a few more minor things.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? New glass and cut and sew interior. Started last September with inspecting the steering box and new pitman arm and steering arms. Will be glad when it's done. Just a few days away. getting tired.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Winter??
Is that the same as the 'Dry Season'? No, wait, that's the Summer. What was the question? |
Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Replace front spring in my sedan replaced brass incerts in all shock links. Rebuilt a spare engine I had which has been hiding under the work bench for years. Anything Model A related to pass the time until spring.
|
Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? After using the coupe as a daily driver for 2 weeks last summer,I'm driving it as much as I can on dry roads now. The Autolite heater makes it Nice.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? 2 Attachment(s)
I have the interior trim out to repaint it correctly (was grey and should be tan).
But right now my wife has me working on the kitchen, so dry wall repair, bead board, and restoring a 60 year old base board heater in on my schedule! |
Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Had to get a propane heater head for my BBQ tank to keep the chill off in the garage while putting around on the car. Even then, when it's below 40 out, the heater doesn't do much good, so I have worked on it when the temp gets warmer than 40 or 45.
This winter I had the headlight bar powder coated, rebuilt headlight buckets, painted the horn, installed a new wiring harness, and installed new battery tray. Mostly light stuff. I have been driving when possible. Lately it has been kind of warm. We had 63 degrees today, but sadly I am stuck at work. |

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Getting back on my stalled project after too many years. Got my police head welded and surfaced this last fall. Disassembled the motor my dad had acquired for this A back in the 60's and never fired it up. Found some issues so had it hot tanked and magna-fluxed to start fresh. Spent part of my tax return on new internal parts for it on Tuesday. And weather permitting I'm taking the engine and parts to Claire IA in a week and a half for new babbit. Target date of installation in the frame is April 15th 2018.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? My ‘30 Phaeton is living a cushy life in heated storage. I plan to sell my 1912 Touring to be followed by search/purchase of a closed Model A.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Changed from original generator to 6V alternator. Upgraded to halogen headlights, added second tail light and upgraded both to led. Converted old single tail light to led of my own design and dabbed a mount to sit atop rear mount spare tire as third brake light. Added cowl lights, again LED to my own conversion. Also added turn signals with nifty kit from S & M electro-Tech. Very nice. Maybe you can see a common thread here. SEE and BE SEEN!
|
Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Finished the LogoLites turn signal install last week. Drained year old gas, cleaned sediment bowl and filled with corn free regular and MMO. Planned to install Brattons rear tubular shock kit and Vintage Precision thermostat housing, but scheduled foot surgery next week will delay those projects until May.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Where do I start.........? Installed new rebuilt engine, ordered and installed rebuilt bell housing and brake cross shaft from Snyders, pulled off the backing plates and sent to Randy Gross for new cast iron drums and brakes. Installed the Stipe shocks I've had for years, too. This is the roadster I've had 45 years so it had a lot of deferred maintenance that I needed to catch up on. I should have just gone ahead and painted it because I feel like I've pretty much done a complete restoration on it..........now, I'm ready to drive..........see you in Reno.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? In addition to new brakes (post #7), I now have new side rails on my pickup bed (the old ones were really weather worn), and have installed electric wipers (had a hand wiper before). I am also working on renewing the headliner, still a work in progress.

Re: What are you doing with your A this winter? Yikes! Our touring season is less than a month away! I continue to stare at the six Goodyears that need mounting not to mention repainting the wheels, 10 of them no less. I sent out an original instrument panel to be restored with "butler" nickel. Finished the cowl band and yes, what a hassle, however, model A hassles I enjoy. Still not organized though, I failed to install a set of original motor mounts Steve at Berts sold me along with new rubber, when I had the motor out!!! Now I get to do it with the motor installed. The list goes on.
