1952 F-1 Project

5 Attachment(s)
We have both a 27 and a 35 Tudor, but have been looking for a truck project since I retired 18 months ago... brought this home Sunday...

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

Don't know why some of the pictures rotated... original flathead and optional four speed still in and running... just need to start hunting parts for the restoration!

Looks like a good, solid project - enjoy!

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

Thanks! Plans are to keep the original drive train, perhaps lower slightly with Posie springs, and update the brakes to front disks, the rest remains stock...

Sweet! You will find the 52 parts are tougher to track down that every other year but they are out there. Enjoy the adventure and keep us posted.

I'm starting to experience this already...front fender extensions for starters...

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

Congrats!

I also have a 52 f1, purchased about 2 months ago. It's been keeping off the couch and in the garage nightly. So, I'm helping the truck get a new life and it's helping me:)

Stay in touch.

That's my plan as well, thanks for the encouragement:D

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

The fender extensions are hard to find, no matter what year( 48-50 or 51-52 ) I was lucky, I found 2 NOS ones for my 1950. Fiberglass is out there. Carpenter's is working on them. Don't know if he has released them yet. Nice truck.

On the driver's side head, what's that thing sticking
up a "mile" off the head?

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

Block heater.... one on each head.... they're both coming off!

Nice old truck! I've just started in on a 49 and plans are just about the same as you. I hope you post a lot of what you do so us new F-1 guys can learn along with you.

Carpenter is reportedly on "hold" with fenders after very poor quality prototype parts from China.

Be careful with used/nos extensions. F1 is different from F2/3 but only due to a bigger opening in the fender for the tires for the F2/3.

The 48-52 F series fenders and extensions suffer from an internal brace at the joint. This often collects debris and moisture between them and the outer fender panel causing rust out, and more importantly swelling and distortion of the outer panels. It looks like you may have some of that so be sure that the metal is brought back to proper shape when the fenders are worked on.

For fiberglass please consider http://www.wescottsauto.com/WebCatal...up-C72-C73.pdf

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

Thanks everyone for the replies... Karl, thank you for the link to the glass fenders... I may consider them as an option if I can't get the steel to work. I've got three corvettes, there's nothing wrong with fibreglass...

Thought I should post an update.... lots of the old sheet metal off, I've collected a new box, rears and running boards so far... working now on stripping down to the frame in preparation for sandblasting and painting it, and then the restoration really begins...

My favorite of the F-1's is the 1952 body style. Great looking truck. How about a photo of that '35 too?

Looks good so far, glad you have the talent to restore, keep the progress posts coming, I like the old trucks.

And now the question.... I've googled and looked through all the usual catalogs... does anyone make the left spindle for the 52 F-1? This one has seen better days...

Re: 1952 F-1 Project

I don't know of anyone reproducing them but they are out there and also on the HAMB so check there as well ....

I would check with some of the OEM and used parts guys, that's how I have acquired them. Original is almost always better. Might post on the HAMB, it is fairly common to change out the front ends and there should be a lot of them around.

Thanks for the suggestions gents.... I'll try posting on the H.A.M.B.

I have good spindle, from my 52 F1. Problem is it’s attached to axle and in NJ.

I’d be happy to let you have it. Obviously, it would need to be removed on site.

Thank you for the offer Andy, I managed to find one in about four hours on the H.A.M.B.!

I'm retiring in 23 days and I bought a '52 F1 2 years ago for one of my projects. Can't wait to get started. Seeing your pictures just make me anxious! Good luck and keep the progress pictures coming.

Congratulations! I did the same thing two years ago, and now have no idea how I found time to go to work!

Thought I should post some progress... I took a 10 month diversion to bring a 1929 Tudor back to life that had been sitting in a lean to carport for thirty years, but I’m back on the truck.... I’ve been working on the chassis restoration and working on the drivetrain...

Very nice! What did you use for frame and chassis finish? Paint? Powder coat?
Thanks.
