ps....I just placed my order for this book but felt the shipping cost of $17.00 by UPS was rather high. I believe they could ship by USPS for a lot less. This is what I have done anything I ship since UPS has changed their procedures and raised their cost of shipping. Just sayin' |
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I have one on order from Amazon.
|
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Looks like a lot cheaper from Amazon.

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Yep, $20.50 with free shipping (prime) on Amazon.
|
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines But Amazon has it on back order. My estimated delivery date is between September 9th & October 14th? They have a special going on for pre orders at the $20.50 price. I'm not in a hurry, so I took advantage of the savings with free shipping. Bill.

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Also, check with Barnes & Noble, they have a free shipping policy. Be interesting to see what Mike Herman has to say compared to Vern Tardel's & Moke Bishops "How to Rebuild & modify Ford flathead V-8 engines"
|
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines That was a shame with the Tardel/Bishop book. Guess you need to check out the arrangement with a seller before allowing them selling rights. But I do understand their situation was not good!

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I just ordered from Amazon.ca for $29.46 Canadian post included, did see another book much the same title by different authors ? Hope I got the same one as mentioned here

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Well not to get into the price of shipping, I've often thought of writing another book as well. I'd base the book on JWL's. The first 100 pages are dedicated to the stock version of the engine, with just external modifications. These were all Dyno proven. All I'd do would be to road test these engines for fuel economy. I think reliability and economy are of greater interest to most of the flathead owners.

I'm with Ol' Ron on that! |
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I am not familiar with the problems with the seller of the Bishop/Tardel book?? I think it is a solid information book so what is the problem?
Thanks, JWL |

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I thought the Bishop/Tardel book was very good, with plenty of detail. I'm surprised it didn't do well.

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines From the original Thread: https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread...=Bishop+Tardel
1) I hope you enjoy the book as much as we did creating it. We wrote and illustrated the book for a super-friendly flat dollar figure rather than a royalty arrangement with the publisher. It made a lot of sense, given the limited audiance for a flathead Ford V-8 book. We were given to expect excellent wholesale rates that would permit us to market the book ourselves with decent profit; a neat idea for the folks who had created the book, right? No, not right at all. Somehow Amazon got into the mix and began selling our book at discount rates even before the book was published! But no worries, enjoy the book, but when friends ask about it, suggest they go on line, or here, and buy a copy from the authors rather than Amazon. Mike Bishop [email protected] 2) Why would someone choose to pay reasonable money to one of the creators of a carefully constructed narrative for successfully working with arcane hot-rod hardware to make it strong and wonderful when they could save a few bucks buying the same book from a company that hasn't a clue about what the book is about but can get it to them in two days? There are times when I ask myself what I'm doing with my life; this is one of those times. 3) I'm glad to see that the book is well received. It was an enjoyable albeit exhausting project. Vern and I operate as individual agents; we don't share individual sales. I'm working on my own website, but in the meantime one can buy the book directly either with a check or money order for $36.00 . . . Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I bought it directly, and supported them. Excellent book

Wow, another great book on Rebuilding the Ford Flathead V8 Engine. Just goes to show how popular these old Flatheads are. |
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I saw H&H announce the book on Facebook. Mike Herman says to ignore the shipping cost (which is high) Mike processes each sale himself and reduces the shipping to $6.50.

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines JSeery, thank you for the very thorough follow-up on my information request regarding the Bishop/Tardel book issues. Well done!

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Just as a matter of information----my book,"Flathead Facts" is available on Amazon. The way my program works is that Amazon sends me a notification of orders and I do the actual mailings.
|
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines I've known Mike for over 20 years, and what ever he does, his attention to detail can't be matched. He and Vern should be rewarded for their efforts.
|
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Yes. And the best way to reward writers is to buy the books directly through them and not though discount sellers. A buyer might save a few lousy bucks buying through sites like Amazon, but those few lousy bucks keep adding up and at the end of the day the writers are disadvantaged. Who can them blame them when they say 'well that wasn't much fun, I won't be writing another' and everyone loses except the discount seller - there's always another writer coming along and always a buyer looking to save the cost of a donut and a shake.

Update on my order of the new book from H&H Flatheads, by Mike Herman & Tony Tracker, "How to Rebuild & Modify Ford Flathead Engines".
It took just 2 days from CA to MD, shipped by USPS Priority Flat Rate Box, to receive my autographed copy of their new book, an H&H T shirt, and a copy of their latest catalog. I can tell you that Mike personally took care of my order, called me on some details prior to shipping, and made good on his promise posted on Facebook to match the shipping advertised by another company mentioned in earlier posts on this thread. I am a happy camper to have my copy now rather than waiting until "maybe" getting it in two months, and would recommend to anyone else who wants a copy of this new book to order it directly from H&H's website. Link to their website was given on page #1 of this post. |
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines Received my book yesterday. I especially liked the sections on rope seals, installing valves and shimming springs, checking head clearance. Maybe you guys know all that stuff, but I learned quite a bit.,...jack

Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines You can never have too many flatheads, or flathead books.
Just ordered mine along with one of those cool t shirts. |
Re: New Book From H&H on Rebuilding Flathead Engines All good news, well done guys.
