Somebody pinch me!

I must still be dreaming, for years I've always liked the 35 Ford design. Even more so than the 36, I always thought it would be my dream car if I ever had to choose only one car.
By The perfect circumstances, and a lot of help from my friends I not only found a 35, but am the proud owner of a 1935 Ford three window coupe!

This one had a few mods "back in the day", but all I can live with. It has a 1940 drivetrain, including column shift tranny, hydraulic brakes, wide five wheels, 49 Mercury gauges, and a filled roof.
I am seriously considering finding some original wire wheels for it, but will have to change drums at a minimum.
Some holes in the floors, but repairable, and the only Bad thing is the grille took a hard hit, I think beyond fixing. I'm thinking of installing my spare running 40 motor in it, fixing the brakes, and driving it!
Still ecstatic, :)
Ralph

PS: I'm looking for a decent grille if anyone knows of one.

Ralph, Congratulations. I felt the same way when I got my 36 3wdo. It was hard to not let the seller (friend) know how I felt for fear that he would back out of the deal or up the price.:D

I put a down payment on it last night, couldn't pick it up till tonight, needless to say I didn't get much sleep last night.

Good score Ralph, congratulations!! You are correct; 35's are just so cool. I've had mine since 1971 and never get sick of driving it.

Re: Somebody pinch me!

Thank you! And thanks for the picture flip GreenMonster!
I am real familiar with the drivetrain on this, as my AV8 has 37 axle and 40/47 brakes, but
I know very little about these bodies. So I'll be asking a lot of questions about this one.
I'll definitely need new rear floor pans for a start.

Congratulations Ralph! I favor the '35's as well, especially the 3w coupes, although I consider all the body style's of that year to be awesome looking.
I bought my first '35 3w in '58/'59, thanks to my Dad who loaned me the $75.00, and my second in 2014 thanks to Vic Piano who knew I was looking for another one, and found a nice one for me in the Tampa Bay area. We named it "The J.C. Whitney Special" because of all the accessories it had that looked like they could have come from Whitney......

Ralph, is it possible this is the 32 3w that was on Craigslist up there? If not did you have a look at the 32?
Congratulations on the 35!

RalphM 07-08-2016 10:28 AM

Re: Somebody pinch me!

Yep, this is the 32. Apparently every old car is a 32 nowadays.

flatrod 07-08-2016 10:34 AM

Re: Somebody pinch me!

Thought it might be, sounded like the same car.

Wish I had that Model A body back, as I want to build a car similar to Jim's.

RalphM 07-08-2016 10:43 AM

Re: Somebody pinch me!

Have you seen it since I "finished" it?
I say that loosely, because even though it's drivable, it's not finished.

flatrod 07-08-2016 03:38 PM

Re: Somebody pinch me!

I don't think I have seen it finished. We have another 30 coupe body, but 100 times worse then the one you got.

What's the plan for the 35?

Re: Somebody pinch me!

I think I'll keep it the way it is for now. I have a spare running 40-41 flathead to drop in it( which is what's in it now.
I would prefer the top not being filled, and put it back to original someday. But I'm sure that would be slot of work to undo. At least they did a nice job on it.
Here's a pic of the model A.

Re: Somebody pinch me!

Parts for 34's and 36's are a lot more spendie than for a '35. Seems like a good way to go.
Your enthusiasm is infectious. Have fun.

RalphM 07-08-2016 06:47 PM

Re: Somebody pinch me!

Good to know 39T, the only drawback is probably that parts like the grille are not reproduced.
I had been contemplating a new project recently, and was leaning towards a 42-47 truck as I used to own one. But then this showed up, and I pulled the trigger on it. I think I'll be happier with this one.

JM, are you sure you have enough clothespins on that fuel line? After all, it is vapor lock season.

You would need to ask the previous owner about that;), but there are definitely more than enough there for me. I have kept this car exactly like I bought it, ...at least for the time being. There is one huge clothespin in the center of the fuel line from fuel pump to carburator that will stop any and all vapor lock problems dead in its tracks:D

It definitely does Michael, and some are not even apparent or visible in those pictures. It will be a tough call when it comes down to the wire to either leave all those "doodads" in place, at least for awhile, or pull em off, and put it back to original.

Kind of nice that 1 car could be so many peoples dream. It was someone's new car once, from it's modifications it was someone else's, and now yours. Surely there were some in between. Personally I'm kind of liking the wide five look. Nice car

Wow! Did you straighten that or have it done?
And we're 35 grilles available painted and chromed?

Re: Somebody pinch me!

I had never done body work but had a friend tell me how to pull and pound on it till it was close then had to braze some broken pieces in and finely grind it smooth. It is not perfect but I think it looks good. took a lot of time but it was well worth it.

The standard model was painted with chrome trim the deluxe was all chrome
