Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Thanks, Bruce. Unfortunately, their description says it doesn't fit the original x-member.

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Check he auction site there are some on there I believe..
I will check later not sure who made them. Cheers |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Wescott list them, the 78-5048 & 78-5049 frame brace pieces are what you are looking for correct? http://www.wescottsauto.com/WebCatal...09-F-Frame.pdf
Note: Sorry, the 35/36 parts are 48-5048 & 48-5049 in the catalog, the Green Book list them as 78- for 35 on. |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 I believe Drake has them also.
|
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 C&G had them in an older catalog, but don't see them online now....might give them a call.....Mike

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 DD...Yep. I should have been more specific. I just said '35 in my post. Should have said pickup. BUT...I think that may be a misprint in Drake's catalog.
I'm really confused now. The big green book says 78-5048/9 is for 35-41 Pass and Comm. I don't even see a 48-5048/9 in the book. If you look at the Wescott link, it shows separate parts for 48 and 78. Joe's only lists one part and told me it would fit both. Furthermore, Joe's and Wescott are $130 - $150 EACH while Drake is $145/pr. Wut???? |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Can you not just make your own? they wouldn't be that hard to make, use a bit of c section or weld 3 pieces of metal together to make what you need. I wouldn't be paying $150 for those bits, that's way to expensive for what they are.

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 I believe PU and Pass. car are the same, 35-36 Ford part number 48-5048 & 9. Precision Coachworks was the place that started making them and since the death of Dave Maher, the parts are now made by another shop, to Daves pattern, they sell through Joes Antique Auto. When Dave made them, they fit like a glove and were 100% correct. I believe the ones sold by Joe's are identical although I have not tried them.

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 I don't have the parts catalog in front of me but are you talking about the brace from the outer rail to the center of the x member that the exhaust passes through?

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 I just straightened mine, but I wasn't going for show. You have them off. Go for it. I can do a lot of hammering for $2-300 bucks.

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Try Precision Coachworks in Billerica, MA. Phone: (978)663-7573,
email: p[email protected]. I bought a frame piece that supports the '35 battery from them 10 years ago. I think they're still in business. |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 "I'm really confused now..." The big book is a cumulation of all the years, and frequently gives a substitute/parts counter part. This means that the '37 part fits your car well enough that the '35 part has been dropped. The different number of course means that there are differences...
So this is presumably a part you can use, but one that would not be correct. Given the nature of the part probably the differences are hole placements. |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 An implication of that is that you need the '28-48 to discover interchange and a '35 or 6 catalog to identify what is original. '28-36 is fairly easy to get. I haven't seen a US 1935 parts catalog...only one I have encountered was Australian.

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 I also got mine from Precision Coach Works. The quality was excellent.

And thanks to all for all the suggestions. I got one of them mostly straightened today. It ain't perfect, but not bad. |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 1 Attachment(s)
I just finished the first test of repro's for the 1935-36 version. These are laser cut, bent, and welded so are not true exact reproductions but are visually and functionally the same.
We hope to have the 1937-38 and 1939-40 versions soon. Note that Precision Coachworks is out of business. |
Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Those are nice-looking, functional pieces, Karl. DD

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 I saw an ad that agreed with the statement in post #12. Precision Coach Works now sold thru Joes Antique Auto...... Mark

Re: Cross member repair parts for '35 Dave and Precision Coachworks are gone. Welfab in Bilolerica Ma did some of Daves parts before he passed away. Welfab bought all the templates & drawings from Dave's estate. Bought a '40 brace from the frame rail to the cross member for the seat from them within the last year. Good folks to do business with and quality parts. Their vendor is Joes Antique, so you know what you are getting from him should be dead on.
