Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

I wouldn't go that far, Rod, no one has shelled out any money at this point -- except the guy making the sockets.

No way. He put out all the time and money asking for nothing in advance but time.

Mike's right. Bill has asked for nothing up front but for us to be patient.

He didn't make a comment, he asked a question. There is a question mark if you look.He probably hasn't read the 12 page thread about the grand production of a socket.

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

Yes There are 7 members of the Sullivan trail Model A Ford club in or around Horseheads, New York that have gotten theirs. Fellows I am the father of Bill Haag who has made the sockets. So since I am the Pop I pulled rank and got the first 8 sockets off the production line. I also was with my son in his shop a few weeks ago helping with heat treatment and hardening the sockets. My kid kept me up till 2 AM getting this done. Bill has been busy with his own business and getting healthy. Too bad that I live over 200 miles from him or I could maybe get some more ready to ship. I think the first orders should be ready soon. Thanks for your patience. Bill Haag, Sr.

Bill,
we appreciate the hard work and long hours that it takes to make something like this happen. We are lucky to have a talented father-son team such as yours doing this.

When they are ready they are ready, and in the meantime the interested members here will be just fine.

Rod: I am so sorry that your first thought about these sockets is that it was a fleecing. I have sent you an e-mail with all my contact info. Please read it and get back to me, and allow me to put your mind at ease. Sincerely, Bill Haag, Sr

I had hoped to give mine to the carb guy in the club for helping everyone out with their carb problems. I am still looking forward to getting this.

It's a specially made socket to remove the GAV assy easily from a zenith carburetor.
Below is a picture of the GAV (gas adjusting valve)
As ""Ward"" mentioned the choke Rod attaches to the GAV and protrudes into the r/s of the passenger compartment. Pull on the Rod to use the choke or turn it in either direction to adjust the fuel mixture at cruising speed. Clockwise leans it out,,, counter clockwise richness it..

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

Thanks for the support guys. I do take some offense to the fleecing comment. As stated I haven't asked anyone for a penny to make these things, just time as one member said.

For the record I have over $4k invested in tooling and blanks, not counting time, just to make the first 150 sockets. At $24 each it doesn't take a mathematician to figure out that I am not even going to make my investment back on the first run.

This was never really about the money anyway as much as it was about making a top notch tool to serve a purpose, that I could be proud of for having made, and that those who purchased would be proud to own and show off.

Yes it has taken way more time and expense than I ever would have guessed, but I guarantee everyone will be very pleased once they receive the socket.

Now, just out of curiosity, why wasn't this posted to the original thread?

Thank you all once again for your patience and support, and I would like to keep everything regarding this socket in the original thread if possible.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Bill

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

And just for the record, I went through the list and rowdy who made the comment never even expressed interest in this project in all the time this has been going on, but piped in now. Guess I will leave it up to the ford barn members whether or not he should be placed on the list should he ever actually express interest in one of the sockets.

That was my thinking also. The original poster could have sent you a P.M. and ask how they were coming along. I guess some people like to stir the pot.

I say put him on the naughty list. ;)

Well for the record again, the original poster mikeinnj is on the list and WILL receive the 90th socket. I understand he did not make the comment.

I keep excellent records folks.

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

It seems from the overwhelming interest you will be able to make more than one run. I bet you could also sell these to the model A jobbers if so desired. Only a very small percentage of model A owners are on fordbarn..
Thanks for your effort, I do appreciate it

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

For the record it was posed as a question. I read your original post on the sockets when it was first posted many months ago. I never kept up with the details as with my ongoing struggles it was one more in a long line of tools that I will have to wait another year or more to be able to buy. I often do not keep up on things like that as after a while seeing things I may want in the future just add to my frustration with the way things are now. I did not mean my comment to offend. Sorry it was taken that way. Rod

I am not going to curse you rowdy, relax lol. Please take your last post off of here with your phone number on it. Not a good idea to put that out there.

We will see what we can do about getting you a socket at some point in time.

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

I've received mine and I'm completely satisfied. I'm sure that Mr. Haag is giving a lot of his free time to make them available to us, and I appreciate it. No one paid ahead of time, so what's to complain about?

I have met the Haags, and in my opinion we are fortunet to have them in the hobby.

Re: Anyone received their GAV Deep Socket

I received mine. It's well made and will be a critical tool in my "A" tool collection. I have no reason to believe that if you've put your name on the "I'm interested" list that you'll have one. Relax those of you who may be anxious.
Cheers,
Jim Morris, President Sullivan Trail A's MAFC/Former MAFCA Director
