tuning engiene I write with translator.
what would you recommend for a 4 banger tuning I can drive on the highway about 70 Milen (without great risk for the engine) please exact description of the parts thank you from Bavaria Robert |
Re: tuning engiene Robert,
I'd start with a TCI chassis http://www.totalcostinvolved.com/p/1...-plain-package and use a crate small block chevy engine, tranny, and rear end. You'll also need a modern steering column with an air bag. Good luck |
Re: tuning engiene you have a stock car and engine? if so 70 miles per hour is unsafe, if you insist on doing that you will need a high speed rear axle ratio 3:54? i think thats right and a mitchel over drive, xlnt balanced tires, and suspenion, and big balls

Re: tuning engiene To me it sounds like he wants to drive 70 miles (not 70mph) on a highway,

Re: tuning engiene I totally agree that 70 mph is unsafe. Even if the engine allows it the rest of the car is 85 years old. You are putting your life and the lives of others at risk! Wayne

YOU go to the head of the class, eh...for comprehension :) ! BTW...'half right', eh ! Looks like BOTH sides of the guesses here were right, i.e.- 70miles at 70mph ! Robert, At 70mph a LOT of RPMs are going on in that engine. If stock (splash) oil system, be aware/careful to not 'overwhelm' that system. |
Re: tuning engiene Quote:
How are you doing , my friend :) ! You are not asking too much of a four cylinder Ford A or B engine ('banger') to drive it 70 miles at a time. But, it should be in very good condition to do that job regularly. How fast are you thinking of driving your engine on the highway ? And, it is a FREEWAY type road or a back country road ? PM or Email me and I may be able to help and work with you...and the 'translator' machine :D. A lot more details need to be known, at least for me to help you. AND, maybe a lot of $$$$ to go fast, if that is what you want ;) |
Re: tuning engiene Not sure what the metric conversion comes out to but I think they do not use miles but kilometers
|
Re: tuning engiene damn, now i dont really know if he meant 70 miles per hour or just 70 miles on a trip, any way 70 kilomters is 42 mph, to convert kilometers to mph, drop the last number and multiply by 6 so 70 k with the Zero dropped and the 7 muliplied by 6 equals 42
|
Re: tuning engiene really funny - we're all trying to help this guy - -hey translator -- -does this guy want to go 70 miles or 70 miles per hour?
|
Re: tuning engiene yep, thats what we are trying to do, what do you think were doing?
|
Re: tuning engiene I think he wants to go 70 mph.
Here is why, he uses the term "banger" I don't think a translator would translate any thing to do with a car as a banger. A 4 banger usually refers to a modified for speed 4 cylinder engine. Next he says "so i can drive on the highway". He goes on the say "exact description of parts". With my interpretation, I think he wants to get his engine to go at least 70 MPH. roert, how much money do you want to spend? this will get you started; http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...-engine-build/ |
Re: tuning engiene Mike, you nailed it
|
Re: tuning engiene That's what I assumed - -
Interesting that the poster hasn't cleared this up. So I'll ask again - - Hey Robert!! Do you want to go 70 miles per hour or take 70 mile trips at a speed a stock Model A will develop? (45-55mph or so) I think all of us are trying to help this guy, to answer the other question above. |
Re: tuning engiene hi richard
I have found in Germany, a 1929 roadster I have the super high speed ratio seen. the cast iron head. and the police head, and then the weaver or a Stromberg carburettors tires are 16 inches installed 7.00. I want fsahren on the highway a reisegeschwindikeit of about 70 Milen. thank you |

Re: tuning engiene Roert,
I am looking at the same issue and have decided that the engine speed must be no more than 2,200rpm. that is 32mph/1000rpm. Our car is lighter than a Model A so there is enough power with a 6:1 compression ratio head. The suspension and the brakes on our car are capable of that speed, you may need to look at your shock absorbers and brakes |
Re: tuning engiene Even simpler conversion, multiply by .60 or 60 %. Wayne
|
Re: tuning engiene or just divide by 1.6. (1.6 km = 1 mile}.
|
Re: tuning engiene Robert I recommend a good touring engine with some improvements like better cam shaft and hi comp cylinder head
And a overdrive to keep the engine revs low Colin |
Re: tuning engiene It's my opinion, and I'm sure others disagree, but Model A Fords aren't as safe as a modern car, especially at speeds over about 45.
http://abc7.com/news/2-killed-after-...flames/964783/ Here's a link to a news article - -old couple out for a drive in their model A - -both killed when the car hit a tree. If they'd hit the tree in a new car, they'd probably both be alive. -(new cars have seat belts, air bags and gas tanks in the rear) My post above reflects this opinion. Be careful out there |
Re: tuning engiene Ian, the six number works just put a dot between the 4 and 5, 4.5X6= 27 mph. 45 k =27mph
|
Re: tuning engiene Hi Robert,
well, I'm in Munich/Bavaria - just pm or mail me and we can have a chat about tuning options without translator. There are many motorways (Autobahn) in our area not speed limited, allowing to challange your model A :-) |
