37/38 Ford Cabriolets http://www.fordbarn.com/wp-content/u.../10/leader.jpg
I think I'm one of the very few... See, I have a passion for 1938 Fords. It started with the first and only hot rod I ever built (and still own) myself - a '38 deluxe coupe. I ... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Ford Barn, click here. |
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets I don't know who considers these "ugly"? I love them! They are very rare and in my opinion are better looking than the 36 Ford, even the 3 window, (chopped or unchopped) which is played out if you ask me! I'd much rather own a 37. The only 37 Cabrio i've ever seen in person was at the Pleasanton goodguys nats in august. It was all stock, dark blue, sitting all by it's lonesome down a side road. It was a beautiful car.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets Hey Ryan,
I've heard people say that about the different yers also, mostly the 38's. I just don't get it either. The 37-38's are not my favotites, but I still like them a lot. My favorite, and on my list if I can ever shake the Model A bug, is the 1939 Deluxe Tudor. So, if you find yourself needing to dump your 39, just let me know. Dave Lopes |

Sorry a few were sedans , but I'm a shutterbug for the 37-40 fords. The last pic is some wall art I just recently purchased.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets Never thought the 37's were ugly ! I have come to appreciate the 38's and 39 std's due to the uniqueness of their grilles . My first old Ford was a 37 coupe at age 16 and have regretted selling it all my life . Have another now and will get it on the road if time and the Good Lord allows.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets The one that always freaks me out is the 1938 Ford Standard in any body style because you just don't see them very much. The first time I saw one when I was a kid, I didn't know what it was and I thought I was an expert on Fords at the time. I liked the picture of the one with the furniture crammed in it. Ain't that what convertibles are for?

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets Ugly duckling? I have always been a big fan of '37 Fords of any body style....even sedans. The grille is sinister looking. I also he way the headlighs flow into the fender....dead sexy!

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets 1 Attachment(s)
Well i've owned a 38 Club Coupe for 24 years, It was my first Hot Rod, built as a rod in 1966, rebuilt in '75 I got it in '86 rebuilt it in '91, and is currently apart for repaint and a Buick V6.
many years ago a few guys and myself were driving from Adelaide to Bendigo for a swapmeet, one of the guys, a visitor from Canada owned a 37 Tudor, half way to Bendigo we were bullshitting about all sorts of crap and some one asked what was the difference between a Buzzard and a Vulture, one of the wiseguys quipped, about the same as the difference between a 37 and 38 Ford, both bloody ugly!. For what its worth I really like my 38, and I suppose it will end up with my kids |
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets We can't forget Kent kozera''s 38.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets 1 Attachment(s)
Always liked 37 coupes since 1961 when I was 15 years old and about 4 of them close by and all black, couldn't gather the $500.00 for the best one for sale. Took me untill 2004 to get one I have now.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets The 37's aren't my bag, although I was born that year. The 40 deluxe does the trick for me!
|
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets They're not ugly unless they're street-rodded too far. Beautiful cars, especially when you leave all the trim on!

I think the '37 Ford Cabriolet/Roadster is one of the most beautiful Ford body styles of all time. Here's a couple photos of my favorite recently built '37 Cabriolet/Roadster of all time. It's a real '37 Roadster built by crew at Roy Brizio Shop and debuted back in 2008.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets A friend had this for several years before selling it to someone in the PNW...
Was a super-nice car (with a '40 dash) but was a little too "street roddy" for me. http://www.chevysportsltd.com/invent...10/p6110-1.jpg JH |
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets I remember seeing the car on Ebay where I think it was where it sold, as I think I remember it was all Ford mayby a Y block or later like a 351? Notice the rare Genuine Ford locking hood ornament, he also had his own idea for a gas fill door that I prefer original over, but man I would have loved to have owned it.

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets I am pretty sure the "ugly" comments started in the early street rod days, as back then no one (street rodders) wanted a '37/38 ford anything.
For me, it's kinda come full circle. The '37s are all so over-street rodded that they are boring. Bleh. But whenever I see a stock one or a nice traditional hot rod, I always stop to check it out. The '38s have always been the lowest of the low on the desirability level of the pre-war Fords. I don't know why... I think they are a great design. |
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets My personal favorite is the '38 standard coupe. I'm lucky, I own one!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../38cropped.jpg I also like '37s a bit too. My sedan http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...tpassenger.jpg |

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets I can remember when I bought a 37 coupe back in the late 50's, early 60's ($75 !), thought it was an ugly duckling. Never really liked them, and now in the past 6-10 yrs they're everywhere and not as ugly as they used to be. Maybe because there are so many of them now, or so it seems. JMO

Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets 38 Coupe, could you post more pics of your standard business coupe, interior shots as well.
your right hand rear fender is getting fairly rare !!! I have a 38 Club Coupe cheers |
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets Unfortunately I don't have any more pictures at hand. The one I posted makes the car look better than it really is. The car really needs a full restoration. It is currently housed in the back of my father's garage and not driveable. Most of the glass is original and completely fogged by now. I took this picture to put into a local car club calendar several years ago and pushed the car out of and back into the building in the background of the picture. The interior is a mess. Someone recovered the seat, door panels, and headliner in black vinyl. The original woodgrain is pretty much worn off. The rear package tray area is completely missing allowing a spare set of running boards to be stored in the truck! The car is pretty solid though and should restore nicely. The only big rust I currently know about is the tool tray in the trunk is gone.
The best place I know of to get good interior shots of a '38 is the Early Ford V8 Club '38-'39 book. I think it is very well written. Manual, the Oliver is a 1951 model 77 with the diesel engine. Thanks. |
Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets thanks for that, I do have the 38-39 book.
In Australia we had locally assembled 37 & 38 Club Coupes in both standard and Deluxe, as well as 37-40 Roadsters and Club Convertibles, the 39 & 40 Roadsters and Convertibles used 38 bodies with the 39 cowl section. Coupes for 39 & 40 were a tudor type sedan with a swoopier roof line, affectionately known as "slopers", because of the sloping roof. |
