255 A on ebay |
Re: 255 A on ebay OH MAN! If I didn't already have my 29CCPU, I'd bid on that in a heartbeat!:D:D
|
Re: 255 A on ebay Ramping up pretty quick...nice car. Thanks
for posting.:) |
Re: 255 A on ebay Too bad I already have 2 cars. This one is located about 15 minutes from where I live.
|
Re: 255 A on ebay Now, don't expect it to be selling at the current price. LOL There are six days left for people to bid.
MIKE :) |
Re: 255 A on ebay The same guy has a 29 Taxi for sale also. Not as nice...but a lot slower being being bid up.
|
Re: 255 A on ebay Missed the taxi, looks like its been pulled, not under his items for sale.
|
Re: 255 A on ebay anyone notice the paint on the hood? what happened there?

Re: 255 A on ebay There might be a lot more vehicles up for sale (model a's) from this seller....as I recall there are about 3 barns full of A's. How much of it is going to be sold off I don't know but out of this collection of cars there was a 29 taxi and a 29 Town car....yes a town car. He had every body style of A's accounted for at one time.

Re: 255 A on ebay $8600 and "Reserve not Met" as of 6:30 P.M. 10/30.

Re: 255 A on ebay You can see the taxi in these pics...
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1931-Ford-Mod...6Bng~~60_3.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1929-Ford-Mod...dLYw~~60_3.JPG There was an article on this gentlemen about 8 or 9 years ago in...Cars and Parts? Hemmings? Can't remember. He had all the rare body style A's like others have mentioned, Towncar, Taxi etc. I believe he had an interesting story with his Towncar having been re-bodied, or rather, re-chassised in the early 30's by Ford or a Ford dealer. -Tim |
Re: 255 A on ebay You can see part of his red Deluxe Pickup in this picture...

Re: 255 A on ebay NICE! It is a real one, note the rollup window regulator, I found the sad remains of one of these about 45 years ago at the Town Dump. Is this the former Swigert Collection car or another? Bob

Re: 255 A on ebay Looks like Vernon Burk's collection of 40+ Model A's. Heard he was in a nursing home and one of his sons has the collection.
|
Re: 255 A on ebay There was one at the Hershey car corral this year.
|
Re: 255 A on ebay I bought the one at Hershey and I have started doing a few things to get it in better shape mechanically and cosmetically. First thing was to put on a right side mirror. The steering box leaked all the oil out over night. I bought the bottom plate with the tube but have not put it in yet. There is another thread with a picture of it. Check my posts if you want to see a picture of it.

Re: 255 A on ebay I remember a post office truck that he has or had. If that town car ever comes up for sale you better have a lot of mulla because I heard him tell a guy that he paid a lot for it plus a trade of one of his cars. He has a great museum at his house which a lot of local Model A Clubs had the opportunity to see it. He would never ever think of selling one of his cars. I'm very surprised that one of them is up for sale. Probably rest home fees.

Re: 255 A on ebay I thought some of you would enjoy this article from the Penn-Ohio club newsletter, from 73, penned by Arlene Burks. File too big to load as on attachment....

Re: 255 A on ebay Great story! We are all caretakers of a slice of American history.

Re: 255 A on ebay No, never a member, but I am a sucker for all things printed on the A. I collect past newsletters when I have the opportunity. I try to read each one cover to cover, but its getting tough keeping track of what all I've read and have. I picked these up a few years ago, absolutely drooled over the pics of Vernon's place as seen in the photos from 73. I can't imagine the treat to see this in person. Too bad the collection is starting to disperse, but it'll help with his care one would assume. You are one of the privileged to have seen it, I'm green with envy.....😉

Re: 255 A on ebay Penn-Ohio member here...I've been around them most of my life though trips and meets. I found out the house was torn down a few months ago, but the barns still remain. I'm sure if they really avertised this as an auction like some of the big collections in the past couple years they could get some premium money out of them. I'm pretty sure the ebay seller is Vernon...he always wore a red cap.

Re: 255 A on ebay Thank you Steve-enjoyed the read.
Different times produce different results and enjoyed the mention of how in the later years, they could never have bought so many A's. I'm sure a few people had the same notion in the late 40's, when they bought a Duesenberg for a few hundred dollars. |
Re: 255 A on ebay I'm going to buy it and turn it into a rat rod. It is number matching right?

Re: 255 A on ebay Way to go Mike, big stick and stir, stir, stir.

Re: 255 A on ebay Its a little over 12 now, reserve not met. Anybody want to venture a guess on what the reserve is, and where it ends up at?
Or in other words, "What's it worth?" , in your opinion?:D I know, I know... I'll find out what its really worth in 3 days or so. |
Re: 255 A on ebay I saw an original that appeared in worse condition go for fifty thousand, a few years ago. The one that I am thinking of had the woodwork painted barn red. One of the Ford barn members bought it.

Re: 255 A on ebay All I can say is what a boner!
|
Re: 255 A on ebay I emailed the seller-intentions are only to list a few cars and that is it.
My guess at this point is that neither car makes reserve. Economy is very tight for this time of year.... everyone's buying insurance! |
Re: 255 A on ebay Looks like the reserve was $17,000.
Whoever the hell has a feedback score of 226 has bid 13 of the 26 times... -Tim |
Re: 255 A on ebay Notice that sometimes the bidding on the bay goes way up, as long as there is a reserve
that's called "baiting"...... sometimes it works though, apparently. |
Re: 255 A on ebay Well , it's sold for $22,600.
|
