I made it!!

I drove my '50 Ford to the Grand national meet in lake Tahoe from WV and got home Sat nite. Traveled 6520 trouble free miles, bought 329.5 gallons of gas and added 1 1/2 qts of oil and wore out my butt. Thanks to Ken, Ct and Bubba's Ign, it never missed a beat.

Ain't nothing shabby about that!!!!!!
Now by old standards you should have done at least one oil change along the way / DID YOU ?

Congradulations Cecil! Also, congradulations to Kay for doing a great job of navigating for you.
We drove from Mitchell, SD to Eden Praire, Mn yesterday, heading for Chippewa Falls, WI today.

Hi Cecil
In that 50 Ford do you have a 6 or 8 cyl.
and do you have overdrive.
Thanks

No, I never changed the oil. With the oils on the market today, I have no problem running longer periods between changes. The oil still looks pretty good.

It ran great and started instantly, except when I stopped for a short time and then it acted like it was flooded and had to crank about 10-15 seconds.

The Shewman spacer helped some. Never a concern.

Vic, I doubt I make the M S fest., but I might make the barners bash in FL if there is one next year. I need to get my Ford into the south more. I have driven it in 36 states now, but need to get in La, Ms. AL, Fla and SC and then the NE states.

Glad you made it. Its always nice to get back home. I hated not going but I had eye operation and I wasn't able to drive for two weeks. I am getting ready to go to N.C to where my son lives. He was in a auto wreck a head on. He died yesterday. I half to go down and take care of matters. He a organ donor and they have him now. Never know what down the road. Glad you made it home safe.

Cecil, I'm curious to know what is your rear end ratio.
I have a friend with a 52 overdrive with 4:11 and beats me every tour with my 53 overdrive with 3:90. He gets over 20 MPG and I get a little over 16. Charles

Ken: You can rent a 4 wheeled scooter to place your operated leg on and push with your good leg - crutches are terrible. Best wishes for a good recovery. Bill OH

Ken, I'm sorry for your loss of your son. Is he the one that was so ill a few months (or years) back? Your family is in my prayers.

I made it back home also but lost track of the gas I bought. About 7100 miles on the odometer but I think it is a little slow.

Ken, So sorry for your loss.

That amount of gas here in NZ would have cost $3262.00.

kiwitony 07-02-2013 07:39 PM

Re: I made it!!

Just remembered your gallons a bit smaller than ours so would be a bit less.
