It is such a pleasure to be able to take people at their word. I had the pleasure of buying a 55 Buick Carter WCFB carburetor from Richard in Florida last winter and finally put it on the roadster today. It is the best thing I have done to the flathead and puts the 390 cfm Holly I had on it to shame. It is the perfect addition to the SBC distributor Charlie in New York converted. John in Tennessee is indeed a happy camper. Thanks Guys. :D

I sold a good little 10 inch swing Atlas lathe to a buddy of mine because I got tired of walking around it. That was a mistake. I have wished I had it back a hundred times. I don't remember what I did with the 400 bucks but sure know I don't have the lathe. :(

I'm having a BALL with my new lathe, and I have the best teacher on the planet.

My latest project is restructuring (major surgery) a "Big Cap" Chevy HEI distributor housing for the flathead and replacing its ugly coil in the cap with a central terminal for a remote coil.

Is the Big Cap ugly? Oh my, yes. But the design has some advantages and I just want to see how well it works.

That would be fun. When I built my distributor I limited the vacuum advance to control total advance. Charlie in New York limits his mechanical advance to control total advance. The jury is still out in my mind as to which is better. I am running Charlies and it is doing well so I can't say my way was better but mine worked well also. Charlies hold down is a work of art. :)

I'm also looking forward to trying out my vintage Mallory dual-point. I converted it into a magnetic trigger for use with an HEI module or my MSD box, maintaining its original appearance. Even the big brass condenser is in its place, but the twisted connection link is plastic! It works great on my machine, but some roads run will be the acid test.

Ya' lathes can be fun. Just converted a Mallory Unilite made for GM to a Pertronix mag. trigger.

Those are the two topside parts of the new remote coil high voltage connection. I turned the bottom piece from Delrin rod in my new lathe.

in what way do you prefer the carter over the holley?

I could never get the accelerator pump right on the Holley. I had tried numerous pump nozzles and pump cams but it always had a flat spot. I could see a good stream coming out of the shooter nozzle and went as small as .025 and up to .036 I think. About .029 was about the best but still never was right. The Holly tech support said .031 was what they recommended I start with.

Anyway, the WCFB is more vintage correct and is really doing a good job.

Need to buy a Holley? :D:D:D
