Next year, I'll change the tires to something other than the Firestone pie crusts. No traction!

Prep was easy. Had to make a roll bar and install a five point harness. I was able to use the existing seat belt mounting points for the harness and used the sub rails for the roll bar install.

It was so much fun, I want to build a dedicated race car with adjustable seating so anyone could jump in and drive.

I had the best luck starting out in 2nd and just keeping it planked all the the way through the finish line.

Clean up wasn't that bad either. Vacuumed, air gunned, washed down with Salts Off anti-salt wash and then air gunned it again.

I replaced the ballast resistor & coil on my 37 Coupe late Sunday and took her for a great test drive yesterday.

I finished restoring a rare, one year only 1933 V8 6 volt generator. Next up - an equally rare 1932 V8 generator.

I posted up a pix of my Mallory distributor for the '32 B engine. It is a rather unique engine... guts all new, line bored on original FOMOCO line boring machines... mains n rods as used originally at Ford Motor Co... and operator was an original FOMOCO employee operator of the machines to line bore back then for the rebuild. Engine came into shop as a modifed B 4 cyl... owner wanted a stocker for an A sedan restoration. It has some flathead V8 specialties: oil filter is a 1950 Ford original oil filter; bolt on bracket. And pressure for the mains, all 3, is supplied by a flathead oil pump, grafted onto outside of the timing cover and driven off the cam. custom cam grind, higher CR . counter balanced crank, too.


As the vintage engine shop owner told me... they had to make a special off loading ramp and take it out to the airport. The B engine came in on owner's private Lear jet... he flew it in. It came down the steps leading to the cabin seating area. :cool:

I have had it for awhile. never (yet) restarted since rebuild.

I freed up 4 more pistons in an 8ba block. I removed two of them. The other two move, but only with a good whack so I'm letting them soak some more. One came out a couple months ago, so there will be three left to work on. I can't find my best pounding apperatus, this being a roll of 2" lead flashing that came in a roll like tape. I peeled it back to about 3" diameter and it does two things. 1) It conforms to the shape of the dome, spreading the blows from the 3 lb hammer evenly, 2) I has mass, helping the inertia of the hammer do it's work. Not sure if I can buy another roll of this lead flashing. They treat it like it's nuclear waste these days, and me without my haz-mat suit. It's a really nice block @.060 over and very clean. Gonna mag and pressure test once the holes are emptied out.

Fixed a vacuum leak causing idle issues. Someone maniaced a 1/8-27 npt female port on my Offy intake & I couldn’t adjust idle over 400rpm even bottoming the idle screw adjuster. I cleaned the hole then ran a tap in it to clean maniaced threads & put 1/8 npt male fitting w 1/4 “ port tube. Also used clear rtv to seal top threads that were just maniaced ti much to repair. Rtv curing now & will check after.

Started the 38 conv, moved to work garage, will fill with gas tomorrow, change oil tomorrow, using castrol 20w-5o, clean under side, gonna have to get a new optima battery, and try to put it in the ford script case, then store it under cover till spring thaw, been a fun summer, with several best-of-shows...be safe this winter

I just finished this rather rare 1932 flathead V8 generator. Another 1 year only generator.

Today I made my first post to the forum since joining a month ago. I joined pretty much as soon as I started trying to bring a ’38 V8-60 back to life. My user name says Lisas38 since this is really my wife’s car. Her great aunt bought it new in Nashville, TN. It’s been passed down a time or two. It was running about 15 years ago when we put in storage in AL. It has come home to Illinois and needs a lot of TLC. I’ve already made good use of the knowledge stored in this forum and expect to come here often. I have done a restoration once before. Lisa’s MGB that she has had since high school. I’ve started into the Ford with the fuel and cooling systems and then on to brakes and steering. Most future posts/replies will end up in an applicable thread unless I can’t find one.

We’re looking forward to a little V8 rumble one day.

Cleaned 38 conv. all over, and under, polished, installed new optima battery, put to bed for winter, under cover, beside our 38 coupe

I'm probably less than 20 miles from you. We have some good resources in the area and about 50 local members in our Early Ford V-8 Club regional group. Even some V-8-60 people.

Today Dec 22, 2024 I started at 9:30PM installing the deck lid on my 32 3W coupe. It hasn't had anything in that hole since 1978. I had no choice, I had to get it out of the dining room because we'er having house/dinner guests for the holidays. One hour and one chip later I was done and I also installed the deck lid latch and handle. Those two parts have been absent since I bought the car in 1965. I'm on a roll !!!

It's a nos deck lid i bought in the mid 80's so it's kinda monumental to finally install it. Cost, $500.00. those were the days.

Made an ignition harness for the 276 engine build.

Replaced "iffy" rubber tubing that connects electric fuel pump, put in inline fuel filter while I was at it.
