- My father ran a small junk yard for 50 years in S. E. Wisconsin. I was a "junk yard kid". Best education a man could have. Dad rode a panhead, built and raced late model stock cars, taught me just about everything I know. Wouldn't have traded my childhood for anything. My first car- '46 ford coupe, SB 283 chev, fuelie heads, Holley DBL pumper, duel point mallory, 350 turbo trans, (shelled low gear on the stock ford tranny doing my 1st burnout) 9" ford (replaced the 2 speed columbia) 4 wheel disc brakes (built my own caliper mounts for the 9") '62 chev X frame with '69 chev impala front spindles with the stock '46 ford outer frame rails welded to it to retain the stock body mounts, hydraulicly opperated hood (convertable top rams and motor), power cowl vent (headlight door motor) '39 chev tail lights, power steering, power brakes, and the list goes on... Oh, by the way, I was 14 at the time (drove my 1st 427 powered '67 fairlane stock car at 12) Like I said, wouldn't trade it for ANYT
