I wanted to put out a feeler (your opinions) on a few items I am looking into for rebuilding my Model A engine. Specifically the crankshaft and the pistons. For the pistons I could go with Snyder's or an aftermarket like Egge. For the crankshaft I was given the option to either counterbalance my current one or get a new counterbalanced one.

My use case is my Coupe. Rebuilt about 50 years ago and current sitting at .030 over bore. I drive it seldomly, but most of my driving is done between 35 and 50-55 mph.

My price cap for my rebuild would be prohibit me from getting a Burtz long block built by someone (going price is ~$9500 w/o shipping) so please don't suggest this.

I'm 77 with an irreparable torn rotator cuff, a knee replacement, one heart stent, double glaucoma, a bulging lower spine disk and a hangnail. Yet this morning I had to move a rebuilt Model A short block from the lower level of our two-story carriage house to the upper level to install it in a friend's Model A. The carriage house sits on a steep hill. A VERY steep hill, one of the steepest hills in town. The only way I could move the engine was to tie it to a two-wheel dolly and pull it down one hill, across the block at the bottom of the hill, and then up the other one. Going down the back street wasn't a strain, but look at the steepness of the hill going UP to the garage where the Model A is being worked on! Do you think anyone driving up the hill stopped and offered to help an old f*rt like me or ask even ask what the heck I was doing pulling an engine up this steep hill? Not in THIS town!
Looking at the photo and my accomplishment without dropping dead, who says we're too old to work on Model A's when we reach this age??? As Groucho Marks quipped: "You're only as old as the woman you feel."... or something akin to that. :) :) :)

Good morning all. Well, I took the 31 roadster to the club meeting last night. All was fine until about halfway home it started to buck. By the time I got to my street, it was pretty severe. There was little power when I pressed the accelerator, but I did manage to get it home. I noticed that when it was not in gear, the engine seemed to sound ok, but once under load, the bucking started again. When it was severe, it was in 3rd gear.

About a week ago, I tried to remove the distributor but couldn't because of the ignition cable clamp. So, I replaced the points while the distributor was on the car. I have not checked them since but haven't driven much.

I noticed on older posts people mentioned points and carb. I haven't touched the carb in many months but I did smell some gas last night driving home.

Do you think it may still be either points or carb, or is this a much larger issue?

Thanks as always!

Within the last month or so I've noticed that opening and closing the passenger side door of my closed cab pickup just a few times causes the window to roll down about 3/4 of an inch. The window can be cranked up and down easily and this doesn't seem to ever happen while driving. Also, I have not yet taken the door apart to see what might be causing this.

My question is, can something inside the door be tightened or replaced to remedy this? If possible, I'd like to have parts on hand before I take the door apart. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

On a ‘31 slant window door latch (and maybe others) there is a spring that goes behind the door handle. When it is missing the door tends to lock itself when you shut the door. It looks like it can go in 1 of 2 ways.. with the spring coming out the front or the latch, or out the rear of the latch.

It looks like there should be springs in all 4 doors; if so, all of mine are broken and missing. For a given location in the car, how do you know which way the spring should be installed?

Attached is a picture of a door latch that could go in the drivers door. Based on this picture, is the spring installed correctly assuming the position is the front drivers side door.. aka the drivers door. Or is it backwards?

Appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance.

Monday evening at 6:00 20 + Ford Barn posters met at John’s Pizza. We were able to meet in person several of our friends on Ford Barn. After about 1-1/4 hours, I stood up and had everyone stand up and introduce themselves and tell the group what their Ford Barn name was. I also took a picture of the group.

Today, Tuesday, there was vehicle judging and fashion judging. The vehicle judging had everything from a 12/27 coupe to a 12/31 small Mail Truck. There were 8 vehicles in Fine point, 3 in Touring class, and 4 in modified.

I have a high compression "B" engine with Miller Overhead, having trouble starting it with a 6 volt starter. It turns over one rev and very slowly. The cables are getting hot too. It does not seem to have a very strong spark either.
I had it running fine on a test stand with 6 volts, but it is not starting since I put it in the Speedster. It has dual downdrafts and dual point distributor. Also thinking going to a Zenith and regular distributor.
And, I am thinking of buying a 12 volt starter so it will rev over faster. Do you know of a voltage reducer so I can run everything except the starter on 6 volts??
This is for my Speedster. Thanks for any help.

Dick Knapp, just turned 89 and would like to start enjoying this Speedster.
