I’m taking the wheels off of my recently purchased 1917 touring to start restoring it, and three came off easily. But the left rear seems to be stuck on the axle taper quite firmly. If it was a Model A or a flathead, I would borrow a hub puller and be done with it by now. But I’m getting nowhere with moderate rapping on the end of the axle (with the nut reversed and threaded back on). Next step might be heating the hub, and/or greater force and the potential for damaging the axle. The car is not rusty and was semi-restored decades ago.
Is there a tool or technique to use? The car is not drivable, so I can’t readily try the trick of loosening the axle nut a couple turns and driving around the yard to get it to pop loose. It has later demountable rims. Ideas appreciated!

Hi Everyone,
I've found a highly original 1913 Touring car that the owner will sell to me if I want it, which is a 99% "yes". The engine and transmission have no more than 100 miles on them after a major Kevin Prus rebuild. It has a new Berg, square tube radiator, a new gas tank and shut-off valve, and the Holly Model S carb has been gone through and serviced where needed. It's been converted to electric start but has no generator; I'd be OK with periodically connecting a charger to the added (six volt) battery. (The original hogs head and non-ring geared flywheel would be included with the purchase.) This car even has an exhaust whistle. Cool! The body wood is very solid, and the chassis / underside is very clean. No signs of rust or rot anywhere. The seats and inner door liners really look like they're 113 years old, though. The top was down when I looked at the car in the owner's shop but was told it's in good shape.
The only big question mark is whether or not the rear thrust washer is bronze or Babbit. I've read and have been told that up to a point, Ford used bronze washers and later switched to Babbit due to it being cheaper. Would a '13 still have the preferred, bronze thrust washer? I'd hope not to have to tear into the differential to find out, but I wouldn't want to be driving along and find out the hard way after a total failure.
Thanks very much for any / all replies.

Step back to 1911 and witness one of the most remarkable motoring publicity stunts of the early automobile age — a Ford Model T making its way up Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, standing 1,344 metres (4,409 feet) above sea level.

This extraordinary footage has now been beautifully restored, colourized, and upscaled to 4K, bringing the grit, drama, and determination of this incredible feat vividly back to life.

The idea was bold: prove that Ford’s “affordable” American assembly-line motor car could stand proudly alongside — and even outdo — the hand-built British machines of the day. The American flag seen near the end of the film makes the point rather plainly!

Behind the wheel was Henry Alexander Jr., son of Scotland’s first Ford dealer. Between the 9th and 13th of May 1911, after careful planning and no shortage of determination, the Model T made its steady ascent. Interestingly, the surviving film appears to begin at the snowy summit and captures much of the difficult descent rather than the actual climb.

Watching the tyres churn through rock, snow, and mud — with even the odd blast of dynamite helping clear the way — one can only admire the courage, madness, and sheer mechanical faith involved.

Step back in time and experience the Model T Ford like you’ve never seen it before. This beautifully restored, colourized, and upscaled selection from Henry Ford’s Mirror of America brings a remarkable chapter of motoring history vividly back to life, with the Model T taking centre stage as the car that helped put the world on wheels. :D

Once seen only in the flickering tones of black and white film, these historic scenes have now been carefully brought into the modern age, restored with new clarity, enhanced detail, and presented in beautiful full colour. The result is a fascinating glimpse into the world of the Model T Ford — not as a distant relic from the past, but as a living, moving machine, surrounded by the people, roads, landscapes, and everyday life of its time. :)

Now presented in crisp 4K resolution, this restored footage offers a fresh and exciting look at Henry Ford’s legendary automobile and the era it helped shape. From the simple charm of early motoring to the unmistakable character of the Model T itself, this is history brought back to life in a way that feels wonderfully real, vivid, and engaging. :D
