Default rear emergency cable-'40

I ordered a emergency brake cable for my 1940 model; it is a 91A-2275. when I installed it on my chassis without body, I put the yoke on the cable and stretched a piece of bailing wire to the bracket where the radius rods come together. it is 9 inches away, sags, does not look correct. does anyone have a picture? I know when I get the body on it will tighten up, but if I need to change the cable I prefer to do it before I put the body on.

thanks,

fordman

If you ordered from a catalogue I think they only sell 21A-2275 cables.? Which are shorter.

Perhaps this will help.Shows bottom of my 40. Also, make sure your emergency brake handle is slack. As I recall, I may have even disonnected the cable at the handle clevis pin and then attached it under the car. Can't remember for sure. looking at your photos it appears you are missing missing some parts - (91A2121 clevis emegency brake equalizer)
and 91A-2270 emegency brake conduit support.

Here are a few more pics. Also, have you disconnected the cable in the rear brakes to give more slack? Hope this helps.

Fordman, What you have is about right. Not to worry.
One thing I might mention - be certain the springs over the new cable (within the drum - attached to the brake levers) are not too long. Many of the repop cables have springs that are much too long. As I recall, about 5 1/2" is the correct length.

After my concern about the length of the cable, about an hour ago I went to the barn and took the new cable out. I laid it out on the floor beside the one I took off and it was exactly the same length. I should have done when I installed it.

I do have the clevis and other brake items. I just need to do a few other things and set the body on the frame.

Thank you,

fordman

Please tell us what the problem was, if any, when you're done with the installation.

Fordy:

Would you take another pic of your E-brake handle, showing how it is mounted to the dash and firewall? I am going to adapt one to my '36 and want to tuck it up as high as possible for a neat installation.
Thx also for the pics of the cable routing....

Please send me an email with your email address and I will send you 21 more photos that I just took for you. I don't want to load up the forum with too much stuff.

19Fordy,

when I finished the installation with the yoke and clevis and the front hand brake cable, every thing looked just like it was supposed to. Before I got it stretched out it looked like the rear emergency cable was too short. It was not too short.

All is well. I have not taken a pic of it yet.

thanks
