Default The Front Street Garage, Route 66 in Galena, Kansas During the 1930s

Can you envision pulling up to this garage back in time in your Ford? Providing all sorts of aid to travelers on Route 66, it looks like the owner of the Front Street Garage was ready for just about anything in this photo from the 1930's. The building still existed when the town was mapped by Google and there is a link to the photo of it on Google Street View in the post. Learn more about it and White Rose Gas on The Old Motor were you can also see 100s more photos of other period filling stations.

Great shot. Those were the days when people actually cared about your ride and customer service. When car manufactures cared about the people that bought their product

Memories, WOW!

Is that the price of gas below the Coke sign on the lower right? I see they advertise rebuilding batteries, how long since anyone has done that? Is that an "OK Rubber Welders" sign in the far left window. I can remember the visible gas pumps that were still in use when I was a kid.

Wow! If gas was only 13¢ per gallon I can only imagine how cheap those nice wide whitewall tires cost compared to what I pay today.

Great picture. Thanks for sharing.

According to the CPI index, that 13 cent gasoline is worth $2.30 today if it was being sold in 1932. Since gas in my area is pushing $3.75, that was a bargain.

Check out the 19" Model A wheels that have been cut down into 16 inch wheels. I used to see those at swap meets, but haven't seen any for quite some time. I had a set on my '29 roadster pickup in the 70's.
