Default First start of the season

I finally got around to rolling the 31 Coupe out of the garage... filled the radiator, pulled the choke and hit the starter. Started right up, ran for a minute and stopped. OOPS, forgot to open the fuel valve. I guess that that testifies to how well the carb float valve sealed for the last seven months.

I parked my coupe in the shed early last October, planning to use a couple of more times before winter.I never did,and got in it last Sunday and tried it.The car started,so we drove it 12 miles to meet some people at a sub shop. That was my spring prep.I must be doing something wrong,I never have the fuel gum up after a month like I hear so much about. My 30 open pickup was parked in the shed 7 years ago, then got put on the back burner.I put a battery in it,cleaned the carb, replaced the points,(they were green)and started it up.That one smelled really bad until I burned off most of the couple gallons that were in it.I poured a couple of fresh gallons in after,it doesn't smell as bad now.

I've started to wonder about additives to protect the gas tank while sitting, given all the ethanol aka water in our gas these days.

Anybody have a favorite?

Werby I use either MMO or Seafoam depending on what's on sale and what I have on the shelf. Both equally work during the winter storage.
My car sat for 30 years in my Dad's heated garage and he left all the fluids in it. I went thru and cleaned everything out, used some Non Ethanol with a bit of MMO, tried to start it but no fire, went thru everything and yep, forgot to turn on the fuel valve. Started right up after that!
