Center rear view mirror mount, 31 coupe?
I just bought a mirror from Snyders, and went to mount it. The mirror mount is flat , but there is a 3/8" step from the metal of the header base to the wood where mirror mounts.
Am I missing something , or do I have the wrong mirror? The holes appear to line up. |

Re: Center rear view mirror mount, 31 coupe?
Ralph, I can't answer your question.... but it raises one of my own. I am putting a new top and header in a 31 sport coupe and also purchased a rear view mirror. Since it never had a mirror before I have no holes to look at... and see there is the metal on top of the windshield then the wood header.. where/ how does this mount? looks to me like mounting it only to the wood makes it too high. Do I need to drill holes in the metal?
Sorry to hijack the thread... thought I might get some insight and help from your post. |

Re: Center rear view mirror mount, 31 coupe?
Mine has a metal lip that sticks out where the windshield mounts, then there is about one inch of metal over the header wood. On mine there are two holes that appear to line up with two of the three holes in the mirror, but I can't lay the mirror mount flat to find out.

Re: Center rear view mirror mount, 31 coupe?
If I understand the issue, there would be trim across the vertical interior side of the wood surface of the header. The trim consists of thick hard paper card material, thin cotton type of padding, and the interior cloth. All of this tucks into the metal strip at the bottom of the header. At that point, there should not be 3/8 inch step for the mirror mount. At that point the problem is; how do you find the holes if they're in the header- everything is covered up. Hope this helps.

There is no step in my mirror mount. Supposed to be for 31 coupe, but maybe not?

So looks like I'm missing 3/8" worth of padding / interior. But that makes the 3/4" long screws they sent with the mirror too short.

Re: Center rear view mirror mount, 31 coupe?
Kurt, is yours a 31 coupe or sport coupe? It appears from your picture that the bottom two mounting holes would be through the metal header wood mount area. Mine does not have holes pre-drilled in a spot that would be suitable for the mirror.
Oh well, as seems to be the deal with this car... I'll make it work somehow. |

That's exactly like mine. Figure I'll just make a spacer for now, till I get the rest of my interior installed.
Thanks for the help! |
