Re: Truck Radiator Shells
Chris - Starting in June 1930 (with the "B" suffixed body types like 82-B and 85-B), the AA chassis used an AA radiator shell (see page E-88 of the RGJS). These AA radiator shells were dipped, gloss black enamel except for a stainless steel shell used on some 1931 AA body types.

Re: Truck Radiator Shells
In a recent post I asked for help in identifying a 1930-31 Model A radiator that I had recently purchased. Based on the different mounting brackets for the shell I concluded it was a Model AA truck radiator. This would imply the AA shell is about 1/2" deeper than a passenger car shell to fit onto this radiator. Here is the post with some photos that may help clarify things. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...light=radiator

l I understand that. Let me put it this way. During any particular time of production the shells used on the A trucks are the same as used on the AA trucks. Does that make more sense?

Re: Truck Radiator Shells
The Shell on the left is a model AA shell and the one on the right is a Model A shell.

Re: Truck Radiator Shells
C. 1931 factory photos.
The 'A' shows a shell with an inverted peak at the top of the opening for the radiator.. The 'AA" shows a shell with a straight line at the top of the opening for the radiator.

Re: Truck Radiator Shells
OK, Now I am confused. What is the difference between the Commercial shell and the AA Shell? I have always thought they shared the same black painted shell.

Re: Truck Radiator Shells
Chris, The commercial A shell was the same design as the A passenger car except it was steel and dipped, black enamel. Through June 1930, the AA used the commercial A shell. Starting June 1930, an AA shell was released as shown in the picture.

Re: Truck Radiator Shells
I have a new old stock 30-31 Model A Truck radiator shell. Still have the old original box it came in with the stock number on it. Box is in rough shape but saved the part that had the stock number on it. From what I can tell by reading this thread it is not for the AA trucks. If anyone is serious and needs one please send me an email. I am not smart enough to put a pic onhere but can send pics to a regular email address if needed. It is not cheap by any means. I would love to trade it for a set of windwings for 1939 Deluxe Ford Coupe.
