Tire Pumps Parts

I have an old tire pump that belonged to my Dad, and he used it for the Model A. It could use some TLC. The rubber cup inside is getting just hard enough to not let the pump work very well. I would like to replace the cup.

The pump is similar to the Model A pump with the two-handed wooden handle and a base for your feet, rubber hose, screw on valve stem connector, etc. I have not been able to find a brand name or model number. There is cast in the bottom of the foot hold "MADE IN USA", and the letter "N". The diameter of the bore is 1-3/8 inches.

I have searched the internet, and also looked at the vendors catalogs with no luck finding said rubber cup.

I was wondering if anyone out there in Fordbarn country might have a source for old tire pump parts, or have a repair procedure that would bring the rubber back to life.

I have a bunch of nice old pumps, some of them T, A, and V8 Ford, that have tired washers. When I went hunting, I found very little out there until Googling around kicked up a pump resto thread on a British sports car group...look at this:

I have NOT yet tried them, but I plan to measure all my pumps and order a whole bunch when I do.

If they fail me...I think the next step would have to be a hole in a block of wood, a piece of leather hacked out of a boot, and a central plug to force something to shape.

Use an appropriate size socket ans a hose clamp. Put leather in oil for a few days to soften up. Worked for me

Bob C - The piston cup seals listed in McMaster-Carr don't have the correct dimensions. Thanks any way.
Bruce - The WT630 I think would work; I would have to open the center to 3/8".
Ray64 & 1930 coupe - Thanks for the remedy. I'll give that a try before I order a new one.

I cut leather and make it a little larger than the old one, soak it with oil, install on rod and carfully work into a cup shape as I install it into the pump. Has always worked so far........

For the hose I purchase them from TSC, Tractor Supply Co they sell a replacement cloth covered hose for portable air tanks that works great, not org equ, but great for a pump you want to use.

I have access to a pump repair kit for hand pumps Model T originals, and similar ones with pressed steel or cast base. The kit includes hardwood handle, plunger rod, hose with clamps & end. leather diaphragm, threaded top cap, spring, hardware. I can buy them from the source that makes the kit.. I just got one kit recently as a sample and haven't tried it yet. Kit would retail for about $22 and parts are not sold separately by the source that makes the kit. I would have to order in minimum of 10 kits or more.

I bought the leather cup for my original pump at the local hardware store for about $1.50 as I recall. As suggested, squirt oil on it.

I believe he was selling NOS Ford cups, from what he said at Hershey.
They seem to be gone from the organized hardware world, though there surely must be stashes in some of the few stores that have survived Home Depot.
I have seen the kits with complete handle assembly...Bratton's, perhaps?... but I don't want the visible parts or their cost!
