Default F1 Front brake drums...

I know that there have been threads on this topic in the past, but I just spent some time searching and couldn't come up with them. Anyway, I know that some have recommended using '86 F150 rear drums for F1 fronts which aren't available. So, I went to Rock Auto Parts site today and looked up '86 F150 rear drums and found a whole bunch drums, rotors, and what have you. The drums made by Centric have nice little drawings and the one shown below matches the pair of original F1 drums that I have in drum ID, height, bolt pattern, and center hole diameter. There's a very similar drum, but the center hole is much larger.

Thanks Bill. I have one pair that came from a '52 (OHV six, column shift- could that have been a '51?) and I was looking for a second pair. I doubt that I could find anything useable at a price lower than that from Rock Auto.

I have to use F-100 pick up drums for the front of my 51 Mercury cars. They have to be reworked a bit but they will work. It helps if you have a lathe for sure. I have to make hub center hole spacer bushings to insure a snug fit of the drum center hole against the hub diameter. The F-100s had a larger diameter center hole than the Mercs did. Rear Merc drums are same as the F1 since they both had the Dana rear axles.

The F1 fronts seem like they were a deep center drum. There aren't too many like them out there. When you can find them, you just have to pay the price they are asking.
