That stamp was put on Thomas Edison's car.
The car is Edison's Phaeton at the Gilmore

Thinking a great road trip would be to the Henry Ford Museum and then to the Model A Museum...

sconnors, starting from where ? We did that trip a few weeks ago on our Harley's. It would be a somewhat long journey on the "A"s, from Spartanburg, SC.

If, anyone is interested - we would be in favor or a Model A trip from here to ?? and not a whole lot of miles. Let me know......???

For those who haven't been following the discussion regarding timing of "No. 1."

http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ison%27s+Model

There is some question about is this truly the No. 1 - or was there a large pad No. 1 made earlier, possibly un-numbered and used as prototype.

Now I know where Runnerbun got his inspiration for this points adjustment technique!

Many model A'ers believe that the Edison car at the Gilmore is the #1 production car. Emphasis here is on "production." I'm sure Henry and Co. put together many vehicles with lots of A parts as test cars to see how things survived. Enough research has been done over the years to verify the Edison car.
Wondering what became of the other low #'s ? 2,3,4 etc.

No doubt to verify as the Edison car. But Ford himself took it upon himself to "update" the Edison car often as he thought his friend might appreciate being kept "current." Much as Microsoft insists I take updates to my Win 8 machine.

I imagine Mr. Edison's similar consternation: "Gosh dern it that Ford is at it again - can't he leave me alone to enjoy my car without all his popping up and interruptions?"

Making a little fun here. One imagines that the Edison No. 1 car is a bit like Granpa's Axe.

"Replaced the head twice and the handle three times - but it's still Granpa's axe."

Heh. The USS Constitution was turned around for the last time this last weekend BEFORE a major three year refit/replacement to occur in 2015-2018 time frame. That is - perhaps they're going to go after that 20 percent of the original Constitution remaining and put new in it's place?

It's still the USS Constitution - even with the epoxy.

(OBTW, I've shut off updates to Win 8, use "Classic Shell" as my overlay, and refuse ANY AND ALL UPDATES.)

The car was used at Greenfield Village for several years after the Edison family returned it to Ford. What was done during that time is really unknown, but it was driven around Greenfield village much as the Model Ts are now. Probably had things like upholstery and mechanical updates as necessary.
