Archer Ford, Rochester New York circa 1940
Check out this great pic that was sent to me by Steve Archer grandson of the founder of Archer Ford in Rochester New York. My father started here in 1962 and later became parts manager and what a great one he was! His name was Howard Thompson but everyone called him Howie. I worked for my dad here starting at the age of 14 taking out trash and cleaning parts bins and such. Must have made an impression on me because I ended up spending 25 years in the Ford parts business. Fed and clothed my family doing it. I miss my parents dearly and I even get emotional looking at this pic. It was so much a part of my father. I loved doing stuff with him like going down there early to plow out the parking lot so workers and customers could get in, in the morning. The whole place is gone now to make way for a parking garage for a nearby hospital. Such a shame.... many fond memories..... hope you enjoy. Most importantly thanks to Steve Archer for sending this to me.

What a great nostalgia picture! Wouldn't you just love to step into that. When jobs were for life. It hasn't all been progress... Bill

Thanks for sharing. This same (similar) scene was replicated all across this great country of ours until manufacturers wanted "new style" buildings and/or look-a-likes (i.e.: any honda deealership) or re-development (remember Johnson's Great Society?) took them down.

Mike, that is very cool! It looks like a '40 or '41 Lincoln Zephyr ForDor Sedan is sitting behind the gas pumps.

Really used to be in my home town... Till the MBAs ran it into the ground... Spent too much on its old core business... And too little on its own new inventiveness. ---Burma Shave |

I grew up on Rochester. Their used to be a brand X dealer downtown that had a classy show room, Hallman C-------.
http://media.democratandchronicle.co...lman-chevrolet I saw one of Dale Earnhardt's cars there back in the 80's. Sorry to bring brand x into this. Jeff
