Space saver spare for my 55
HI all. I did a search of the site to see if I can find the right space saver spare to have for my 55 ute. A modern full size radial doesn't fit behind the seat. Couldnt find anything on a search, so if this is somewhere else please let me know & I'll go read up & sorry for the bother.
I checked fleabay and they have a bunch of them, but I dont think all the Ford bolt circles are the same as the 55...or are they? Prices range from $50 to $395 (he's real proud of this one) and descriptions vary. Can anyone help me to figure the right one? Later mustang or full size or ? Thanks in advance, George |

Re: Space saver spare for my 55
I don't know about a ute, but the one I use on my 55 bird came from a 90' s Aerostar. At least as near as I remember. It's a 16" wheel, narrow high profile tire. But it also clears disk brakes, and was close enough to the right height to get off the highway and to a tire store. I wouldn't drive it far, due to its age.

I think your '55 has a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt circle. There are some charts available online to help you find the right one.

Re: Space saver spare for my 55
The ute has standard Ford drums & bolt circle for the vintage. It looks like full size Lincoln town car & later (after 95?) Mustangs would do the trick. I read on other sites Mopar and many of the other Ford products, even though the same 5x4.5 dont fit because the center hole is too small. Anybody tried the Lincoln or Mustang?
Thanks, George |

I had read somewhere that 90's crown vic would work and has the larger center hole. Junk yards have a lot of them.

Lincolns, Merc Grand Marquis, Ford Crown VIctoria are good choices.. Just watch the bolt patterns, make sure they are 4 1/2

My brother got me a Lincoln spare, its the 4-1/2 x 5, its on an aluminum wheel. Not sure which lincoln it came from, but it clears my torino spindles hub and brakes. Mark
