Default 1928 Gas Gauge // repair

Hi,
I want to know how may I repair this part ? Are the numbers black on a white bottom, or only black numbers on steel ?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Many thanks in advance .
Cheers,
Charlie

Go to the "Search" spot above your message and type in "Gas Gauge". You'll find a thread about replacing the float from about a week ago, removing the gas gauge and everything else you'll need to know about this. To answer your question, it's a gasoline=proof black paint on the polished metal.

I used a satin black laquer for teh numbers, then wiped off the excess. After the paint was dry I rubbed some fine sandpaper on the aluminum guage to polish the aluminum and remove any remaining black from the surface. It came out great.
