Nope, no instructions which was strange because a lot of their other rubber came with instructions.

As shown in the photos above, there are 3 seals that completely seal the door opening of the 40 coupe. One seal for the door, another seal for the top of door and the seal with the metal strip that screws in the floor pan at the bottom of the door.

Please post a photo of the "one piece" seal you rec'd from Carpenter.

Thanks Pete. I think this concept of a one-piece seal is a bit misleading. You BIG photos should help clarify.

Yep that helps a ton. I figured out the one piece seal. I have not installed it yet. But after I actually took a few minutes to look at the piece and hold it up, it’s very clear and evident it is to be glued to the door. I will install tomorrow. It looks like a very nice piece. It did come with both sides too.

Again, these photos are NOT installed so it is not sitting as it will. I will get after photos when done. Pretty straightforward.

Have anybody mentioned Metro Moulded Parts inc. for all rubber parts? Tom.

Do more research before you install that top door weather stripping that runs along the top of the door and then curves downward. It does not appear to be an OEM piece. Plus, I doubt if your door will be able to close completely.

I bought my completely original 40 coupe in 1963 from original owner and that style weather stripping was not used.

To the best of my knowledge 1940 Fords did not come with the top of door weatherstripping piece (shown in the last 2 above photos) that curves downward at the top corner of the door and then runs down the outer edge of the door.

Perhaps others will chime in and provide more info.

I was just about to comment in the same regard. But, you beat me to it

There was no seal like that in 1940 and just because Drake claims it to be "improved" doesn't mean it's any good and / or will fit without complications.
Me? Why try to reinvent the wheel? It's a '40 Ford. Yes, it's not airtight like a new car. It's a '40 Ford.

Thanks "Kube" for the verification and sharing your knowledge. I can only imagine how messy an installation and ill fitting that "new and improved" door seal will be. Plus, it has the wrong configuration and the door will probably not close completely.

Thanks y’all. I will tape it into place to get a feel for how it will fit. I will also tape into place the original style as I have both on hand and decide what I like better. The messy glue was definitely a concern of mine already.

A little tip for removing the old adhesive....Soften it with a solvent similar to wax and silicone remover. Once it's kinda gooey, sprinkle on a good coat of sawdust. The semi-dissolved adhesive will stick better to the dust than it will to the painted surface. Then you can roll it off with your fingers.

Please don’t hate me for what I’m about to say. Haha. First I taped up the stock style seals. while they were fine, my doors were still rattling a little bit when closed and I didn’t feel they were tight enough. Yes I adjusted the door catch and to get the doors not rattly, I had to adjust them in so much that the door didn’t close flush.

Next I taped the drake one piece seal in. I’ve installed a lot of rubber in various cars throughout the years. Let me just say I was impressed! They fit very nice and the doors close o so perfectly when installed. So, I installed the one piece seals. I went easy on the glue in case I change my mind later. Right now the doors are closed with tape holding it in while it dries but I’ll get photos tomorrow. The size was perfect, the rubber is oh so soft and squishy I wish I could sleep on it. The doors when closed are very nice and solid now. No hate on the original style but for me these just seemed to work better. I’ll try to keep this updated with my feedback as they “break in” and as I use the car. I drive it to get exhaust tomorrow and am excited to see how many fewer rattles I have. As always, I so very much appreciate y’all’s advice, criticism and help throughout all of my threads.

If it's a one piece It should go on the door I would think. Tim

Just curious as to the top of the weather strip being visible when door is closed.
