Default Windshield Wiper Motor -

I have a vacuum motor that does not work. I would like to install an electric 6V motor. I have the wiring all set up and I have the vacuum hose still there.

Does anyone have a good unit for sale ?

The vacuum type motors are very simple devices and easy to repair. I have found that most of them quit working simply because the grease in them hardens up and sticks the paddle in place. I made a special "screw driver" to remove the fasteners that hold the bodies together by cutting a solid 5/16 shaft screw driver, grinding a slot in the end to fit them, and then slipped a short piece of 5/16 steel fuel line over it to reinforce the end. I works slick. Just be a little carefull and cautious in the disassembly to keep track of where the pieces go and not to break the thin castings. The only one that I have come accross that was not repairable had the inside of the vacuum chamber badly pitted and damaged, but it was still good for parts. Vaseline seams to work good to regrease the paddle and slide valve. Give it a try, not too much to lose. Good luck. Jim.

Thanks for the reply....
I have taken the unit apart and yes the grease was pretty hard and void. I cleaned and re-greased it with a nice soft white machine grease, reassembled and hooked up directly to the intake fitting. No good - it did not work At All.

I run a wire up to the wiper area from my battery supply. I think, I would like to install an electric unit. I would like to buy one (used) from Ford Barn person, so if anyone happens to have a workable wiper motor....let me know.

If your vacuum wiper is re-buildable, send it to John Holland. 330-483-3896 outside Cleveland, Ohio. If your wiper motor is not re-buildable, he will have one to buy outright.

Thanks for the reply....I got John Holland's name and phone number the other day, from a Ford Barn guy- Timbasher, but I haven't called him yet. Kind of in favor of installing an electric wiper motor. I probably should stay with the vacuum. ???

You will have to drill holes in your header because the ones you have for a vacuum setup are different than the ones for a stock Model A electric. And the new repro electrics have to be mounted on the inside and the actuating arm sticks out too far to open the windshield fully. Frankly, it's a big PITA and much easier to put the correct vacuum wiper in it. Rebuilt they work just fine. I have them in all three of my cars, and I live in Oregon, where it rains a lot!

I agree with Ray, that you'd be better off to stick with the original wiper, but then use Rain-X.

I have the elec. wiper motor you want and its cheap, but I agree with the above sentiments. You would need to drill new holes. You are better off with an original.

Pinstripe, A lot of "A" owners say that. I think I will stick with the vacuum.

I thought you had already decided to go with vacuum?? In your former post asking this same question, I suggested going with vacuum wiper and even provided you a link to one that was for sale. Did you contact him?
