Default Another Flathead Lives

Last weekend Steve came over in his '55 F-100 Pickup so we could swap out his leaking MC with a new one. I had been rearranging all the boxes of assorted house stuff (things that still haven't been installed in the house) to try and make enough room to get to our '47 rag top (it has been blocked by boxes for almost three years). Steve helped me move three bathroom vanities’ out of the garage and into the house. We also rearranged several pallets full of plumbing fixtures so we could get to the '47. We jacked up the rear end and put dollies under the rear tires so we could get some lateral movement. Once we got the '47 freed up, I installed a new started button and battery, just two tries and she fired up... The throttle was sticking and it sounded like a few valves were as well. I worked the carb linkage by hand (she runs two Holly 94's) and poured some MMO down both sides of each carb... Almost instantly the garage filled with white smoke, the valves quitted down and the throttle linkage was responsive. I backed the '47 out of the garage and Steve and I gave her a good bath, getting rid of just about three years’ worth of dust, etc. I put some MMO and Seafoam in the gas tank along with five gallons of fresh gas and we took her out for s spin. I was surprised at how well she was running I guess she had enough of a nap and wanted to get back on the road. During the week I put about 150 miles on her and yesterday I drove her up to our Hot Rod Breakfast club, round trip is just about seventy five miles, without any trouble. I should also mention that the top worked and so did the wipers. Only thing not working is the horn… I sure love em when they run right.

Vic,
Glad to hear you got the 47 out of mothballs. Sounds like an easy start after sitting for 3 years. Now you have something to keep you busy! How about a picture and what your plans are for her.

Vic - Well, darn it all!! I was hoping that the attempt would fail, you would get mad, and then trade me straight across for the World-Famous Truckstang!! I NEED a '47 Ragtop (for Margretha, of course) to go with the '47 Jailbar......GRIN!! YOU need a one-of-a-kind Mustang Pickup to add to the Ford collection.....Glad to hear that you were able to "Tom Sawyer" Steve.......did you get the MC repaired / replaced, or did he go home with a sore back and a leaking MC??
Warm Regards, Marcus

John & Marcus, with all the computer problems I've had for the past month, I have not been able to download photos, hopefully by this weekend I'll be able to get some photos up. My Dad's first new car was a Maize Yellow '47 Ford Convertible, I found ours fifteen years ago and, except for her long nap, I've driven her round trip to North Georgia dozens of times. It felt good to be behind the wheel again. We did install the new MC in Steve's '55 F-100 and he is planning on driving it up to the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA in October. I may just ride shotgun with him.

You might be right Frank. Yesterday my wife told me that an entertainment center she ordered will be delivered next Monday... So much for clearing space in the garage.

I thought your garage was the entertainment center.
