One more rear end question
I have my rear end assembly sitting on saw horses while I finish the brakes and misc. items that need done. There is no speedo gear housing on the torque tube so I'm not sure what the ring and pinion ratio is. My old rear end had a speedo housing with 9/34 stamped on it. I did a search of the forum and found several explanations on how to check it with the rear end attached to the car. Is there a way to figure it out while I have it out and sitting on the saw horses?

Re: One more rear end question
You mentioned in the other thread that you have an inspection camera. Count the ring gear & pinion teeth, then divide the BIG number by the LITTLE number & you have the rear end ratio----TA-DA! The most common is 3.78 to 1.

Re: One more rear end question
Yes, with 3 people, mark both brake drums and the drive shaft with a piece of crayon/chalk/tape. Have a person on each brake drum slowly rotate the drums simultaneously keeping their marks at relatively the same location in the rotation as it is being turned. While this is happening, have someone count the revolutions the driveshaft makes as the 'Brake Drum Turners' make one complete revolution. If the driveshaft turns roughly 3¾ times, then you know you have a 3.78 ratio. If it turns 4 times, then a 4.11, --and 3½ turns of the driveshaft make it a 3.54 ratio.
